New bookis to read the russia house,a perfect spy, the spy who came in from the cold and the night manager john lecarre. Top of the tor in spy novals.
Hi James. My father liked LeCarre, particularly "Tinker,Tailor, Soldier, Spy". (Smiley's people?) I saw it as the movie with Alex Guiness. Later I watched "The Day of the Jackel", with Edward Fox, and I was hooked. That lead to getting the book. This is a good idea.. I'd lumped the spy genre in with "whodunnit's" before, and that was wrong.
Sgirl122, I hadn't realized Salinger had written Catcher in the Rye, a book I really enjoyed way back. I'll look for Nine Stories, that's a bet. The reviews repeatedly supported your appreciation for dialogue. I think I would enjoy it. It reminded me of something. Just an idea.. You might like "Bachelor Brothers Bed & Breakfast". It's hard to adequately describe, but it's chock full of dialogue. Basically the story of.. (guess?) 2 bach brothers living & renting out their home as a B&B, and all the colorful characters that go there. (There's even a sequel out now.)
It's not flashy, or fancy, but the descriptions really bring the life and people (and differences of) in focus.
Reads as a semi-dairy of one of the brothers, the "practical" one. (grin)

espernaut-i know EXACTLY what you mean. You'll also notice that the main bad guy in several of his books have the initials R.F., aka Randall Flag in the Stand and Richard something in another book. Eyes of the Dragon (or some such title) had an evil guy R.F. In the Stand, King explains that all the satan-like incarnations/evil beings are the reincarnations of the same person, Randall Flag. I always loved that.
I never read Gunslinger, thats part of teh Dark Tower series? I can't remember but I plan to read them eventually.

Now that I didn't know. (It'll be fun looking for comparisions..) You reminded me of The Stand, and a few short stories semi-related to it.. prior to Stand, I guess? Captain Tripp's etc. Let's see.. I think he also wrote a children's book with Dragon something in it? Now that's odd, I've not one S.K. book in the house. OooOOoooOOo.

Espernaut I have read all of Lecarre's books even one the horonable school Boy that was not a spy novel whis he would write more I to like Smiley's books he wrote three or four with Geroge the unlikley hero. Brilant just brilant.
lol I have atleast twenty in my house-most of them I haven't read, three version of The Stand, and two copies of Tommyknockers. I got them all at garage sales and thrift stores: I got Bag of Bones a month after it came out for $ 1.50 (i'm so proud of myself)

I just heard that leon is dead, so sad, to bad. He to the jews was the man who wrote the book.
Understood James.
Have any of you read any of these?

seriously, I remember reading "the Big Book of Poo" and not as in Winnie. It had a big picture of a toilet somewhere in it.

I want "The Tao of Pooh".. really.
I have it and it is a great book. I really think that you will enjoy it Esper. When you are finished, you can write a report and take it to the Principals Office for grading. 😉
I think the author's even branching out.. something about Piglet as well. You know, I just might. Book reports.. ick.. one of the niceties left behind! lol!

Just read the last lion by william MacClaster about Churchill between the years of 1932 to 1940 great book
