Do what you want and have no expectations
Seems to me you don't like the way he treats you and he tells you that his behaviour is normal and that he's always been like this...if I understand you correctly. He also seems pretty self-centered and less concerned with you and your life.
So, if I were you I would ask myself if this is something I would be willing to live with, because even according to himself, he's not likely to change over time.
