Beauty in Tradition

Like most Aquas I indulge in the whacky and the weird. There's a charm about something just so out of place that it pleases my senses and palette (whatever that may be) though at times I feel like tradition and discipline exists for reasons and there's beauty in that.

I'm yet to observe what is so weird about us as a sign. Been told that is the beauty of it. When others cry weird it feels like home for the world would be rather dull if we're all Joneses.

Not only limited to relationships (of all kinds) but disciplines that have or in the process of dying thanks to technology. An example comes to mind when people ask about my handwriting. It's very old school because I had been trained by my father, for some odd reason, to write with ink and quill. My father is chinese and he didn't end up teaching me Chinese calligraphy so go figure that one out. I remember the countless afternoons to always space my letters accurately, the shape of each letter and most importantly legibility and consistency.

So I guess I do owe something to my father as he taught me from a young age that perfection requires discipline. I relate to the ideal that talent does not exist without perseverance and unknowingly carried that through out every major decision I've ever made in my life.

After discarding my interest of science for art (how typical) I found it fascinating to learn all things design related such as photography, typography, painting, sculpting, smithing and so forth. Which is why I feel like there's still so much more to learn. There's beauty behind how each discipline came to be. Artists and Designers have been doing the same jobs before computers ever existed and it's wonderful.

Much like social interactions. Though this could be very biased. People who are familiar with Asian culture can probably relate to this. Growing up I've always been taught respect and sincerity. I've always disagreed with it but I've come to appreciate this. Never call an elder by name unless acquainted and speak when addressed. Relatives must be addressed by their appropriate terms and always remain courteous. Your Sirs and Madams. Holding the door open and general things like that.

Traditional courtships. Treating a lady as such. Although admittedly this one I probably fail more often but generally I do go through the whole ask the girl out on a date. Plan the date. Escort date there and home followed by a farewell and nothing cheeky or inappropriate. If you ask me though perhaps that old school has rubbed off way too much on me.

If there's a person to thank it would be my Grandma. She's drilled that into me. I can only hope she's proud of me now. We come from a poor background and she sacrificed a lot to not only bring my mum up along with her 3 sisters and 2 brothers but younger ones including me for a short period. Even before passing away she was still working hard and looking after grandpa.

Some people find it odd I find and uphold some traditions and that's because I refuse to let some die. It's a great thing to hang on to and at times tragic to see these virtues dying before my eyes. There's an art to everything even in the most mundane tasks we can think of. What's interesting is how it came to be.

I can say for certain this probably doesn't apply to all Aquas but I'd just share this perspective for the record. We might be weird but some of us don't mind a bit of normality (whatever that is).

My mother is a hairdressing teacher and she taught me nothing about hairdressing, though when I learnt how to do roots she got me to do her roots all the time, my dad hasn't taught me anything, not even fijian. I swear my parents are fucking cunts!

The only thing they taught me is how to be difficult in relationships??_??_..I go on natal cafe a lot and I read up on peoples charts and theres this trine aspect that I'm jealous of its about not having any mixed signals in your up bringing and I had a lot of mixed signals when I was young I was always too young or had to grow up on a whim. I have always admired tradition whether it be family reunions that Ive never been to or just the sentimental bullshit parents pass onto their kids. Ive always felt like I was more like a boarder living with my family and not a part of the family.

aquanoz is right. not all aquas. i dont like wacky and weird stuff. never have.

science is COLD, so i never got into science because the people there who went into science classes in the university are so....cold. I dont know what it is...the coldness. hard to explain. it is only when i got into the area specific to water animals in science that it warmed up. so weird!! for example, like learning about water mammals and the area of marine biology. You could feel the warmth of people around you too. It's so odd!! just by different subjects in uni.... you can actually feel the difference and the atmosphere has changed.

Science is cold, especially when it calls on animal testing scientists close off their hearts and compassion to living things and just use their minds??_..I msged a guy on the dating website I used and he said he was a scientist and I asked him what branch he was in and he said Biomedical and my initial reaction was eewww I could smell hospitals and see fluorescent light flash before my eyes and instantly thought NO.

Marine biologists thrive on breakthroughs when it comes to saving the ocean so they are constantly generating good karma, good vibes and they are surrounded by water so how could you not feel the love of natures womb comforting.

I admire astronomers but I could never love someone who disregards my beliefs because they are not scientific or has an opinion on astrology when they don't even know anything more than their own sun sign.

lol thanks for sharing that.

Yeah I have met kind and wonderful people in the past working in marine biology, working with dolphins ect. They are so very sweet and caring. They truly are generating good karma and good vibes.

i remember those videos of "AXE videos where the hot women go after astronauts instead of firemen"

and i thought, gosh... the astronaut will never be home and it will be very very lonely. Might as well not be married. But it's weird how society looks upon Astronauts as the ideal husband to marry. Yuck.
Nothing against astronauts, but in reality.....astronauts out in space 2 years, is not going to warm your bed every night and be there everyday.
