I do this all the time. I have a million things running through my mind, it's hard to stay focus on one thing. However, people are surprised that I'm actually paying attention to what they're saying. Sometimes, I forget and I ask again, but once the conversation is going on again, I'll remember. Usually, when I forget, it's because I tuned out and was focusing on the next task I was set to work on.

Do people notice when we tune them out? I think I get away with this... Except with close family and friends.
