For me its always been they simply accept me enough to want to potentially get closer. I don't necessarily have to relate to them mentally, physically, or even sexually.
For me I've always been a lost puppy just seeking the simplest form of acceptance/ acknowledgement. Does that mean I'll stick around or ever even trust them? Hell no.
I realize this is more of a negative trait, but I'll hang with someone who simply makes me feel noticed. It's probably a mixture of ego, insecurity, past betrayal, and childhood neglect.

Sure. I could potentially be manipulated, used, die alone, or even murdered. Likely easily. It doesn't change the fact I've never looked at a person in my entire life and thought "I really want to go out of my way to meet you." I only react to people who make the first move. Even then I'm still highly suspicious and skittish.
