What is the difference between Ascendants and 1st house placements?

Difference Between Ascendants and First House Placements

Ascendants are the zodiac signs on the horizon at birth influencing personality, while first house placements refer to planets located in the first house affecting self-expression. A planet in the first house, like Pluto in Scorpio, can be more immediately felt, especially if conjunct the Ascendant, but both influence your overall personality and identity.

So, I have a Libra Ascendant, but I have Pluto in Scorpio 1st house, which is apparently "on the ascendant". I relate a lot more to the description of the 1st house placement, than I do the description of my Ascendant.

What is the difference? What is more potent? Does its degrees/ aspects matter? Do the below aspects suggest one to be felt/ seen stronger?

Pluto Scorpio 1st house 3 degrees.

-Square 3 degrees Jupiter

-Sextile 2 degrees Neptune

- Opposition 5 degrees True Node

- Square 7 degrees Mid-heaven

- Conjuct 9 degrees Ascendant

Ascendant Libra 23 degrees

-Sesqui-quadrate 2 degrees Moon

-Conjuct 3 degrees Mercury

-Semi-Sextile 1 degrees Saturn

- Conjuct 9 degrees Pluto

Just a guess, but I'd say aspects to the ascendant add or colour the rising theme of how you come across and relate to others while 1st house placements would shape your ego and the core of who you are.

So, if 1st house placements shape the core of who you are, it'd be understandable that I relate more to that description. And, maybe how others perceive me would be more the Ascendant, so it wouldn't necessarily be FELT by me, as its an external representation of presence?

Based on my experiences that would be my take on this, yes.

I have a shit ton of aspects to the ascendent but a completly empty 1st house and it took me a very long time develop an ego and accept that there are things I want and desire, and that there is nothing wrong with that, while people always made characterizations and defintions of me that often felt like they were coming out of the blue for me.

Example: someone with a positive sun-ascendant aspect might be seen as somone with confidence or an air of authority but might not be aware of it or even interested in something like that, while someone with a sun in the 1st might have this picture of him/herself and thus a desire to project that to the outside and be seen like that. If the 1st house sun is also conjunct the ASC it would be more harmonious and easy-going whereas a 1st house sun might struggle with being as such.

Just an ad hoc theory though.

cool

but what if you're a first houser but your sun is in the 12th?

I have similar placements to you, but my Scorpio Pluto is further from my ascendant.

Basically if you have planets on the ascendant (or in hard aspect to it), they will play a direct role in ascendant-themed-affairs, such as your first impression and how you generally approach people. It'll be a big part of your outer personality.

Planets in the 1st house are similar, but the further away from the ascendant the planet is, the more time it might take for people to see the planet as a part of your personality. Basically, planets in the 1st are slightly less visible than those on the ascendant (but are still big parts of your personality).

My ascendant is in Libra (25d), and my Pluto/Venus are conjunct in Scorpio (13d and 16d) in my 1st H. I think other Plutonic people can sense it in me, but generally I think most people would see the Libra part first, even if the Scorpio/Pluto influence in my personality is heavier.

Porbably more internal disconnect.

so i would appear extremely confident and self-possessed but may not always be how it is internally?

My Scorpio Pluto is my only 1st House placement as well. But I also have Scorp Rising, so I may not be much help here.

Same

... I thought op had discovered she was part of the scorp rising gang anyways? Did that not work out?

Are you Scorp rising, love?

Me or op? I am but I thought op found her dob or something? Must have been a red herring or something 🤷‍♀️

Imo when Pluto is in your 1st or aspected to your ascendant...it will give your rising sign a scorpio flavor...you going to come off to others as a very intense Libra rising.

A liborpio rising if you will lol.

Hmmm I’m also first house stellium with 12th house sun. I’m not sure that’s the case.
