Uranus moves into Taurus... brace yourselves

According to astrology, massive changes will occur on May 16, 2018 when the planet Uranus enters the sign of Taurus. This is both a time of excitement and unpredictability! Our physical environment as well our social structures will take on new forms and we can expect to see more natural disasters. In fact, it is predicted that earthquakes, volcanoes, tidal waves and may occur on the West Coast of North America next year. Rest assured, whatever happens will set in motion important cycles for humanity’s future.

Events like this stir people from their complacency to help shift the collective mind. These Uranian energies give a willingness and bravery to believe in concepts that were previously ‘weird’.  Albeit, we may have no other choice than to find new ways of living. What we have been doing isn’t working and now we need something new. Uranus wants to disassemble the lego house and build it again – but better.

Topics about sustainability, eating local, renewable energies, regenerative agriculture and other eco conscious activities will quickly advance our progress. Uranus makes edgy things cool and pushes it into the masses. We can expect to see the next push for eco-conscious activities and life style s as it permeates people’s daily lives. We have seen mass hype around human rights during the Uranus in Aries period. Next, we will see a battle for our bodies, basic needs like food and the environment.

Understanding Uranus

Uranus is the planet that rules over innovation, technological advances and humanitarian achievements through the process of disruption and disassembly. The sign associated with Uranus is Aquarius, which rules over the 11th house of global consciousness. This is the human element that breaks apart old paradigms and forces growth in collective thinking, all with awareness and action. It is the planetary tipping point. Uranus brings revolutions which ultimately better human conditions and they need to be born from chaos. Chaos naturally inspires Order. With this transit affecting the global masses, a sobering reflection on the condition our lives will be hard to ignore. Uranus represents that which drives global radical action through the individual to become authorities over our own lives. It is the voice of the people, rules over humanitarian activities and challenges oppression no matter the cost.

Understanding Taurus 

Taurus is the sign that encompasses our relationship with the physical world. This includes our bodies, the earth, animals, food, resources, money, and how we assign value to these things. What we pay to get our basic needs met belongs to Taurus and the 2nd house of personal wealth. Their planet Venus likewise rules over the physical luxuries and sensations experienced on the physical plane. Our food, shelter and water are all things we pluck from the earth. Since Taurus also rules the toddler stage in life, it shows our dependence on forces that give us life. We are dependent on the resources we harvest and are vulnerable when we don’t adequately protect them.

Environmentalism

Uranus going into Taurus is turning public attention onto how we need to secure our natural resources. Continued harm done to ecosystems will force more environmental laws and political reform. Likewise, alternative energy will become a trending topic as we aim to relieve pressure on the earth. Uranus shares the sign of Aquarius with Saturn and Uranus is currently making a trine aspect to transit Saturn. This is significant because it brings together new scientific technologies (Uranus) with ancient wisdom (Saturn). Indigenous cultures have it embedded in their languages and knowledge to understand earth’s natural patterns, we must listen. It is from these cultures that we will draw many solutions to the world’s current ecological problems. Nature does a beautiful job of creating whole systems that leave no waste. It is through the study of bio mimicry, permaculture and indigenous teachings that we are learning to understand the land. The solutions we develop now will serve as the new bedrock upon which future generations will grow.

Uranus is giving us an opportunity to take direct action as individuals in protecting our earth. Taurus the sign of abundance, nature and biodiversity will open the eyes of the masses to these issues. The health of ecosystems depends on the existence of a diversity of plant varieties and animal breeds on farms. Biodiversity will also need to increase in urban areas and neighbourhoods. Additionally, we could also see more aggressive promotion of genetically enhanced food and seed sterilization. Intellectual property rights of seed varieties will come to a head as well. How appropriate;  intellectual (Uranus) property rights (Taurus).

Local Food Security

Uranus almost guarantees surprise events and disasters.  In the sign of Taurus it can bring serious ecological disasters such as earthquakes, floods, droughts, etc. These conditions would obviously make it difficult to grow crops. We could see the crumbling of farm systems that have existed on shaky foundations; a system of unsustainable, mono-crop based agriculture. Building a new agricultural system that values biodiversity will be crucial in restoring pollinator populations as well. Local food systems will become an important solution in building new structures to return control back to farmers and consumers. If we do not take part in constructing a better world, we forfeit power to those deciding for us. Considering the threat of natural disasters to farms and food supplies, a focus on community supported agriculture will arise. Whole communities of people in neighbourhoods, towns, and cities will need to work together to feed local families. Uranus is ushering a revolution to take better care of the earth and create food resilience in our social circles. Responding to the coming crises with preparedness will determine how best we bounce back from the unexpected.

Nutrition & Health

Ideally, future innovations will hopefully make healthy food more accessible to the average person. Uranus can be seen as a Robin Hood archetype that destroys authoritative structures to return power to the people. Currently, organic whole food from major supermarket chains is so expensive it is only accessible to the wealthy. In western countries large populations are being fed on low cost, low value food. Facing the current reality of mass food waste in North America, we are gradually learning the true value of food. The real costs of food are easily revealed to anyone attempting to grow food locally all year round. Realistic prices of vegetables and fruit may inevitably rise, especially under the affluent energy of Taurus.

So far in western countries, our relationship with food and the earth has been a painful one. In part, our disconnection from food has led to various diet related illnesses. Without knowledge of and exposure to how our food is made, our health suffers. The combination of alluring food advertisements and unrealistic body expectations in the media has created a vicious cycle. While food should enrich our lives, it has become an addiction, an enemy and a luxury rather than a necessity. Discussions about eating disorders could therefore receive significant attention and discussion during this transit.

Animal Rights

Uranus could bring new fad diets, scientific research about nutrition and a focus on addressing cultures around eating. Veganism and cruelty free life style s have been largely dismissed bythe meat and dairy industry. This is an extremely controversial subject and has been the subject of countless dietary debates on the internet. Information about nutrition is already being revised and old beliefs about animal protein and health are being challenged. However, more scientific evidence is showing plant based diets are not just adequate but preferred for optimal health.

Uranus is a destroyer of oppression, especially if it comes from governmental authority figures, corporate bodies and institutions. Animal cruelty is a serious concern that will come to a peak during the next 8 years. We could see total industry changes based on an increased demand from the collective for more ethically sourced food. We are a society no longer in need of animal products for necessity so why continue eating animals? The solution to environmental and medical crisis is right under our noses.

Financial Systems

**There are other discussions regarding this Uranus in Taurus transit, including the new financial systems we might see moving forward. As important as money is in relation to the topics here, I’ve chosen not to discuss it in this article. Simply, the topic of financial institutions and the effects of this transit on them deserves its own article.

What I can say is that the technological influences of Uranus will likely push digitisation of currency. At the same time, because of earthy Taurus influences there may be a return to using metals to give money value. Re valuating the ‘value’ of products will be the catalyst that transforms all of our global societal structures. When money itself changes, every thing that can be bought and sold will have its worth altered. Growing organic food locally may be more expensive than industrial food, but all the damage done to ecosystems on the back end is not worth it.

Maybe there will be big changes in our natural world and shifts in how we relate to them, but a lot of the conclusions the author makes about how that will look are completely subjective.

I had 2 dreams, last night and the night b4 last, about 2 guys with venus in Taurus. One is a Gemini and the other I'd an aries.

1st dream, the Aries, who is notorious for being slow with everything and going in circles to nowhere actually proposed to me. He was finally on board.

2nd dream, Gemini. Both out families were vacationing together and he wanted to spend as much time with me getting to know me. We were stuck in the scifi world and he has to save me from aliens. The desperation in his voice was such a turn on.

The most action I've gotten all year.

Been sick with the flu but my dreams have been amazing.

It will enter my 10th house, I am looking forward to it... and quite terrified.

Just checked, it will affect my 7th house... That will be a crazy ride then. How long it will stay in taurus anyway?

This transit is a long one, through 2026.

I'm a Taurus sun and Asc. I'm not looking forward to this transit at all. The last time Uranus transited Taurus was 1934 - 1942. Global economic meltdown, dust bowl in the U.S. Hobo villages rose due to mass unemployment and property foreclosures. Rise of the Third Reich in Germany. Doesn't sound like much to look forward to to me. Especially when Saturn squares Uranus, as it will.
