I work with a female Cancer. I am completely at my wits end with her. She is the most unprofessional person I have ever worked with.
The list of complaints I have against this woman is long, but the most important, and the one that has put me at the end of my rope with her is this:
She is bullying the employees she manages by telling them she will fire them if they raise a complaint against her. They told me this in confidence a few days ago. The Cancer does not actually have the sole authority to fire these individuals. They also informed me she has been talking on her cell phone all day...which I confirmed to be true yesterday - about a man she has been on one date with who is now in Iraq. ALL DAY.
These actions particulary effect me because much of her work is falling in my lap, and I am sick of it.
Is this common to cancer's to let your personal life interfere with your profesionalism. If so, what is the best way to get you back in shape and back to work?

I don't think this is a "sign" thing.
There are plenty of people out there that have personal issues that keep them from concentrating on their work. But it should never keep them from getting the work done. Maybe she needs a vacation day to handle her issues.
Communication is the key. Voice it, let it be known to her. If that doesn't work, then go her boss.
It is definitely not part of a Cancer's nature to be that aggressive towards employees-usually we use subtle manipulation! Is she by chance a Cancer/Leo cusp? Believe it or not, Cancer's don't like conflict and this is totally not Cancerian behavior. Also, Libra's and Cancers tend to not see eye to eye, so leveling with her is the only way to work this out. I think sometimes Cancers can be amazingly insensitive for how intuitive we are, so maybe she doesn't even understand the stress she is inflicting on those around her. We are all not really this bad! Normally we bring a great dynamic to the workplace!
