This is the same thing.

It's not nice to have silence, but it's equally as unpleasant to have someone make demands of you when you're just not ready for it.

Trying to force them to do something is basically the same as "You will do what i want because i don't give a shit about how it is for you, I need the validation, the control and whatever else comes with not giving a shit for your side of things".

Just chill out and let them have their silence, even if it isn't what you want. It's only going to get you one result if you push and push - they'll tell you to fuck off.

Just patience and understanding.
Also, if you have something to do or are responsible for their shelling, make sure you send some texts not to intrude but to remind them you care, because not contacting the crab at all during the silence period will make things worse as they will think you dont care, so basically it is a mixture of giving space and being there at the same time...complicated but not impossible.

Depends on the reason why he or she is being silent, what they perceive your reason to be in trying to reverse that, how well they know you, trust you, etc. Context?
