Secret Relationship

Recently I got into a casual relationship with a Cancer guy. We act a lot like friends, talk about many things and generally have fun with each other.
He is very sexual as well, which is something that I adore, but when it comes to romance and emotions he is kind of reserved. We only hang out by ourselves, never with friends. He says that he wants to keep our relationship secret because he doesn't want people to know about his private life too much. As far as I know, he hasn't told anyone about us, even his friends. I suppose that he is just cautious and has a fear of commitment. Is this a common thing for Cancers?
