Food for thought: If someone is aggravating you and you lash out at that person in a racist way, that makes you look just as ignorant as the person you are talking to. No one makes you do anything. There is always a choice within yourself. You have to make the final decision as to how you respond to ignorance.

Ms. P. : I know that Flyg. is not considered a racist in regard to her statements of the different signs...but the point was that IMI was saying that I was a racist when I was making comments in regard to her ignorant Black A** and Imi was stating that I was a racist on statements alone. I was making a point and Imi. missed the mark terribly and remains in the dark. A very basic thinker is what I suspect.

I do not need to look up the definition and I know that I am far from being racist or prejudiced- you really have to have 1/2 a brain to figure out my numerous posts in regard to the point I was trying to make. Or Imi. is very young.

the point I was making and apparently it hit nerves was that if Flyg. was going to make ignorant statements about individual people based on their sun signs it IS the same thing as a white chick (no i never said I was white, I made a statement that the MOVIE "White Chicks" was all about 2 black guys (comedians) dressing up as, and stereotyping white people and no one sits there and throws a tantrum- they laugh)...it is a similar concept as me making comments about her ethnicity. In a lite hearted manner...which IMI took to a whole new level. why? (small minded...one way thinker...ooohhh. I said govt. Cheese..."oh no she didnt" !!

Honestly, I think it would really be beneficial if there was more of an open dialogue. We act like it is taboo to discuss race.

Explore your feelings. Say what your initial reaction to a person is, and whatever expectations you may have had of that person or group. If we do this more with ppl who are different from us, we might come to realize that we are more alike than we think. We are so afraid that maybe we might discover that we aren't what we thought we were. But it's okay, b/c what if you learned that you're MORE than that? That your potential is greater?

I didn't even know that Italians were considered white. The ones I know usually just refer to themselves as purely Italian, or Meditteranean, unless compelled to identify themselves by color.

When they first came over here, they were treated just as the blacks were- like scum of the earth.

They tend to be dark, as well. Weren't they conquered by the North African Moors? Many believe the dark skin of many Italians is attributed to this mixing.
