When is a good time to switch jobs? I've been at the same company for over 10 yrs worked my way up n through 3 takeovers/re branding.
One of my ex colleagues recently left and said if jobs come up she'll let me know.
Yesterday she said a role came up n to send in my resume quickly. So I've sent it - I wasn't looking to update it n have a proper talk with her until May as I'm on hols. I spent time fixing it up and sent it.
At what point do I tell the cap that I'm applying for jobs or wait till I'm offered the role or just not say?
What's the big deal whether the cap knows you're looking for a different job or not? He's not your husband so what difference does it make what you do? It's really none of his business. It's your life take charge of it.
Unless you work with him or he's your boss or something, then I wouldn't say anything until you got the offer and decide to take it.
When is a good time to switch jobs? I'd say when you've risen as high as you can go in that company and there is nothing more you can learn from them and there's no more benefit for either of you to continue working there. Unless you're happy and happiness overrides more money every time. Sometimes it's a good move to take what you've learned and go elsewhere and develop those skills further and the new company has more rungs on the ladder so you can keep moving up and growing.
We don't work together... I've worked hard n stayed loyal to the company but seems like I've gone as far as I can here. The other role is the same position but in a diff company maybe I can pick up different skill set there. I'm not sure of the terms yet but there is a choice of home working n the offices are in diff locations. Some are closer then where I am now and others induction is further away
Do what you think is best for you. It doesn't matter if you tell the cap or not. Of course, he could be a good sounding board for career advice, though. He might be able to help you make some decisions, help with the resume, etc.
