No contact for months - now he's emailing me!

hello everyone,
I have had no communication with the guy I was in a sporadic relationship with for the last 1yr 4 months and whom I cared deeply about - he left the country for a better well paid job (I told him I didn't want him to go), we said we would keep in touch - I kept my promise, and for a few months all was ok, but then for 4 months I heard nothing from him. Now 4 months later I receive an email from him out of the blue saying 'Hope you are fine. Tell me what is going on? Can we chat?'. Since he's living in another country he's obviously not contacting me for a booty call. (I still see him as active and online regularly, on the social website we met on)- so based on that and his 4 month silence I decided to ignore his email. (he capricorn 54yrs, me scorpio 48yrs).

Since I ignored his email, he has now contacted me another 4 times asking if I'm fine, and why have I not responded to his emails - my heart is telling me that he is still interested, and my head is trying to work out what exactly is going on here.

Any advice? Is it just as friends now? Not sure how to proceed.

Im not sure about the interest part. I think it may have just hit him, that he's been wrong, and he's hoping you are not mad at him.

The thing I dont necessarily like here is his determination for you to respond. He's been in the wrong. He should have contacted you once and backed away respecting that you dont approve of him disappearing. At this point, its all about him and his disbelief that he's being ignored imho. He wants to "win" you over again. Id personally continue to ignore him.

Maybe he's lonely and just wants someone friendly to talk to.
