How do yall feel about self evaluation performance appraisals?

It is something new we are starting this year and I'm really not sure how I feel about it. I'd like a subjective opinion on how I'm doing from another perspective from my own. Obviously, I think I'm doing great, but with this kind of appraisal how do you know how you're preceived around the office?
Yet, if I think I'm doing great, then I appear to be getting a good appraisal this year, since I'm the one doing it. lol!

What do yall think about them? Does anyone have these type of appraisals in their place of employment?

Yes, I have to do them, and have for about 6-7 years now.

I absolutely loathe them.

Goal setting is one area - Progress on goals from the prior year another.

Then we have a 1-5 rating system based on 6-7 categories - with comments/essay.

I always rate myself straight 3's across the board (exactly average). I do this to thumb my nose at this joke of a review for one, and two -- it forces my boss to really evaluate me, and of course, rate me higher than 3's and tell me how great I am. 😉

Good idea. If you rate yourself too high, it looks like you're arrogant and not being honest and just doing it to get a good review. Too low and you're not showing confidence. Average, though? I think I go over and beyond.

I suppoe it really doesn't matter though. Almost everyone gets the same across the board raise regardless of how much effort you put out and it seems like a cop out for the bosses.

The most important thing to stay on a track and unitize time and to take care of our biggest priorities many people don't pay much attention to self evaluation process but It forces employees to evaluate themselves and their performance.

This is probably true as well.

Correct. You're going to get the going rate, regardless of how good or 'average' you are -- at least in my case.

That's why I treat the process as a joke. Give me my 2.5% and let me get back to work. *sigh*

We don't have those, but it'd drive me crazy. I can talk myself up in jest and I can be incredibly self deprecating, but I'm shite at the humble brag. This seems like a humble brag.

I don't like to toot my own horn either.

I used to be like this, most women are very critical of themselves..then i saw this libra and scorpio coworkers (both shitty people who are now gone) always talk about how great they are, how great their ideas are, blah blah blah, and believe me, they had many weaknesses and things didn't get done, and they would blame others for issues that rose, but they sold themselves...

So i learned how to be confident and sell myself a little more on my evaulation after witnessing that, and i got a slight promotion.

Oh, I used to work with a few people that talked a good game, sold themselves like that. Then when it came down to it, they didn't know squat. Didn't last long either.

But you're right, women tend to be more self deprecating than a man is. I think we're learning self promotion better than we used to. We are evolving as women and it's about time.

Looks like you figured out how to do it properly. 🙂

Yeah, and wasn't so long ago, 3% was the average raise. They dropped it to 2.5% here a year or two ago.

I couldn't possibly take myself seriously for one second doing that :-/ Someone else is more than welcome to appraise me however..whatever the outcome is I WILL better it! Actually, I would probably hope to hear I need to up my game so that I'd had something to chase.

We haven't done them here. We only do regular performance evaluations by our supervisors and employees do evualiations of their supervisors.

I don't think what's said on those really impacts any of us unless they wanted to fire you.

But if i had to self evaluate myself I'd be honest but what I think I need to work on, i'm not sure if management would agree.
