And I must say that his version(Midnight Sun) is a hell lot funnier than Twilight, right from the first chapter.
Has anyone noticed, even the writing style of Meyer has improved.

You're reading MIDNIGHT SUN!!!! Already!!!! Damn Devil, you read like a speed-demon :O

Thats cool 😄

Not all of it, I'm still stuck on chapter 2. (But I find it more gripping than Bella's monologue about Edward's perfection.---Yes I'll say that 100 times, because I really feel liberated. haa haa)
Reading from the laptop is weird. I dont know how pluto does it. She prefers the laptop for some odd reason.

oohhh, I normally don't like reading from a labtop. I prefer a book or something in my hand. I don't know, thats just me lol.

I haven't read Midnight Sun yet ... how did you read it? It hasn't been published yet here in the states.

Thats not fair at all Devil, I was helping you with Twilight and now you've read something that I haven't even seen yet.

oooooo 😛 😛 😛 @ Devil

You know I see many of the readers putting Edward down, and then I cringe. (I want to kill my cousin!)
lots of vendetta going on with me these days. haa haa

no I am way off, although Ive unfortunately had more time to read it in the last couple of days. I say unfortunately because Ive had a bit of an unexpected shock today after a couple of days of complete upside downness, but such is life.

unexpected shock? of the ram kind?

lol no he is the last thing on my mind. much more serious than that. but I cant go into it too much, I am just a bit tipsy and emotional right now.

I was fine with it. It gave him some character depth, knowing about his life before the Cullens.
But the meeting Alice part was just weird.

am I the only one who thinks alice is a bit weird per se? Plus what is all this about them collectively not being able to work out what bella works out will happen? Hello, all that vampiric intellect vs bella's five minute appraisal— How is she so smart.....

Alice IS weird. Thats why I label her as having some loaded aqua in her planets.

And Bella figured it out, because...........
*drumroll*
she needed that part. Other wise she'd be just another dumb dummy chick in the story.
This time, I'm pretty sure that the author consciously made Bella discover the real plan of the vamps, so that she appears to have a brain at least. She wasn't getting any credit so far, and this thing did it.

Lol how do I say no to that without disappointing your dxp paternal aspirations— You sound about as fatherly as sagi sounds motherly. You sound big brotherly & protective if anything.

I think it sweet that your cousin is so inpired by your real love story.

yes but...it is at odds with all her other stupid decisions that she has a brain. I mean why on earth would anyone want to be a vampire through choice?!!!

because,
-it will make her eternally hot and beautiful
-she'll remain forever youthful

-she'll get to DO Edward, without worrying about being nommed(in a bad way😛) or being crushed
-she'll get to DO Edward again and again

yeah your cousin and the jacob denial was interesting..... I wonder why she does not see that jacob is hard hit by bella. But maybe she needs to see a real life parallel. Wasn't there a wounded scorpio in your real story?

the scorpio was my friend. and he's a total ass. pluto did date him in the beginning, but she wasn't very sure on it. it was all new to her, dating and all that. and he tried to take advantage of that.
he was still stuck to his scorpio ex, while dating pluto.

and i was pissed by this.(nice memories.drrr)

Jacob thing is very different. My cousin is dazzled like Bella, so she just cannot see the light in Jacob.

hmm yes but surely she is smart enough to see it's the same as optional sterilisation? She does not come across as a very sexually driven person or someone who is interested in long term commitment (fear of marriage for very shallow reasons etc), but is motivated by romance to give up her chance of having a family— Never mind holes, talk about a bit chasm in the plot.

I dont think Bella's shown as very keen on having kids.
And c'mon Cappy, she's the epitome of lust! just looking at Edward makes her all kinds of turned on. haa haa
(I dont know if thats cause of his dazzle-meter, but the effect remains)
She just wants to hump him, kind of like Sagi's pets. 😛
And her stupid logic about marriage pissed me off. She comes off as a hypocrite. She wants to spend and eternity with Edward, but doesnt want to marry him.
(I wonder if she's thinking about stringing Jake along again)

You know I reckon meyer can only concentrate on refining one character at any one time. She loses sight of the rest and just treads water with them. So when bella is strong edward fades and vice versa. Plus with so many key characters she has not made things easy for herself.

I'd agree. She has left her characters half cooked in many areas. It's irritating sometimes, because then it seems like contradictory behaviour on their part.
I'm getting more and more positive that this book concept had much potential, but because of the wishy washy approach, it stopped short of being a wholesome read.

Paperbacks are more expensive than hardcovers—? Actually, that makes sense, as paperbacks are way more portable/versatile/functional than hards. I always thought hardcovers were more for collectors than avid readers.

I have been borrowing my friend's paperbacks, and I start Eclipse tomorrow! Woohoo! I'm pretty stoked, even though my friend warned me that it was her least favourite book of the series (argh, I don't like it when people do that- it's like I've been prepared for literary disappointment or something).

What are your thoughts on Eclipse? Yay, or nay?

I personally liked Eclipse, it had a decent plot.

There's this LJ blog I that has commentary on the 4 books, and even the Edward's unpublished version. And seriously, its hilarious beyond words.
Some things mentioned there are the very things i myself thought about the books. haa haa

Thank you MsPisces!

Atleast someone understands... it gets really bad in the second and third book. I'm almost done with Eclipse, my reading has slowed a bit , because I'm so tired of this self deprecating crap.

I read some of the analysis of the book (devil posted the link). The woman hit the nail right on the head about a teen girl with low low self esteem...Meyer has the hot guy in school fall for her and try to show her her worth countless times... its all really sad, maybe because I'm not/was never like that, so I find it to be annoying. My little sister (an aqua), whose a die hard fan (she reads all 4.5 books once a month), when I told her I didn't like the Bella character she said don't worry no one really does.

A little self-confidence please!

I have a feeling Meyer is taking influence of the Bella character from her own life b/c she's being a little mellow dramatic about not finishing the series because of the leak. *rolls eyes* Its all about the money, although she wants to mask it as "an artist betrayed".

Well, I just finished my first book.
It seemed like the movie; maybe because I saw the movie first.

Devil: I'm flattered you think of me when you read Alice. I would think she was aqua as well, but I don't see how I remind you of her.

I finally caved in and agreed to watch the movie. (I'm still thinking of escape routes though 😛)

Alice reminds of you because-
-of her keen interest in fashion 😛
-she is a strong character, and can make a whole coven dance to her tunes(or wear what she buys, haa haa)
-sometimes, she is the only one who has the right perspective of things.(I liked it when she asked Edward to slap Bella in NM)😛
if Edward had listened to her, then we wouldnt have 3 more books to read. and poor Jacob would have been saved from being Bella's slave for life.
-she comes up with ideas that work(think eclipse)
-she doesnt get all angsty and emo, she keeps her cool in tough situations

The only thing that doesnt match is her boundy hyperactive demeanour(unless you are like that, i wouldnt know). She can only be an aqua girl, that I'm pretty sure. haa haa

by the way don't write bella off too soon. She changes in first dawn. You will be impressed 🙂

First dawn? ah breaking dawn. damn, Cappy, for one second i thought i was reading the wrong book. but then, i remembered that i sent you that one. haa haa

Bella gets more and more annoying as the story progresses from twilight, the first book. in NM, she is all emo and pining for Edward, the same time telling herself that she didnt deserve him. then get yourself together, you dodo, you brought it on yourself then, if thats what you think. damn irritating.
and then she keeps stringing Jacob along. And he willingly becomes her slave in Eclipse. even more irritating.
and boy, wait till you read BD. I'm almost pulling my hair out now.
The only good thing so far in BD is Jacob's perspective. It's nicely done, much better than bella. But the story line gets real tricky now. and once again, bella pulls a dodo on everyone.

Btw Cappy, did you understand the chromosomal chit-chat of Jacob and Carlisle?
I found it weird.

LOL, When I wrote that I was just finishing the first book and Alice hadn't played so much of a role yet. As I read on all the way up to Eclipse I started to see you perspective and laughed. My favorite was when she told Edward to slap Bella also. She's the most level headed...and we're both psychic 😛 Also she's pretty much the only one Edward listens to and there very close... she keeps his craziness in check as well... I like to think I do that for my friends and family.

There are only a select few that would label me hyperactive...more so dramatic lol... "I am an ACTRESS, that belongs on Broadway!" is my favorite line to say 🙂🙂

Also, it seems like people respond better to weaker women. When a woman in literature or movies or real life is a strong independent woman, it seems the opinion of her is she is mean and bitchy or people are put off by them for whatever reasons. I think women who think for themselves are great but I personally get treated a little different for being more independent.

i seriously, completely agree with you on that. speaking from personal experience.

Haha good to have you back devil, I have clearly been talking about another book and damn! on the other thread you had not started to read it and there you are probably nearly overtaking me!

If you mean the sentence about 24 chromosomes in relation to renesmee then no I thought that bit was confusing. I am just past the imprinting bit. But do you agree this is a better book than the others? I was particularly impressed by the way the bit where bella wakes up is written. (Im trying to write this in code so as not to give away the plot to anyone who has not read it).

I was going to respond your post in the other thread, but then I thought, lets keep the destruction limited to one thread only 😛

Yeah, I dont get the whole 24 chromosomes part. If Jake has 24 and bella 23, then suppose in a hypothetical situation, they procreated. so how many chromosomes would their child have?
Meyer was trying to be a smartass there, putting Jake and Ren in the same chromosome number category.

I thought that adding Jake's perspective made it really nice. Otherwise, I shudder thinking about going through all the angst and suffering from bella during that period.
There are so many Jake'isms I want to constantly quote. And Leah, oh well. I thought Leah was going to get close to Jake, but omg Ren! (Personally, I think Seth would've been better than Jake, for Ren. The situation does actually look like a goth version of a sitcom.)
And Bella is back, ready to break Edward's pelvis. haa haa😛
I think the plot's nice, lets see how it finishes.

"Well actually I remembered once you had mentioned how you felt that the author seemed obssessed with the main character in a Twilight thread. Which made me conclude you read it."

That was a quote from the guy who played Edward in the movie. Glad that's all settled, then. (I'd have replied sooner but I had to go dismiss my second)

"Charming as usual."

I'm just joshing with you. Of course I recognized your unique posting style right away, Flygirlchi, but calling you out just like that would've been no fun at all.🙂

personally i think i'm more like Angela Weber...the human...🙂
but i think my fave characters so far are Jake and Alice...Edward has on and off days...sometimes he behaves like a jerk, and then gets all mopy afterwards...then he becomes all romantic and knight in shining armour kind...
i guess that keeps life interesting enough for bella...
i dont understand her constant cribbing about not being beautiful enough for Edward...is it always so much about beauty?
she's such a hypocrite...she gets mad at Jake at the drop of the hat...but wont say a word to edward...because he's doing her a favour being in love with her...?
that wuthering heights comparison is the best so far...Steph Meyer should have built on that...portraying bella as this selfish and annoying character...not this caring and giving girl blah blah nonsense...
and she abuses her dad like anything...i get mad seeing that...she abuses anyone but the cullens...duh...

Which Twilight novel character are you

Your Result

carlisle_cullen.jpg
You're Carlisle Cullen - You are very intelligent and have high moral standards. You truly care about people and helping them. Your knack for solving problems and pleasing two warring sides makes you unique and a desirable friend to have, even if sometimes you have to tell people what they might not like hearing.

😛 dun dun dunhhhhh....lolz
