Gem thinks I'm clingy? What to do now?

I met this Gem online and after texting back and forth for almost two months we met in person. It wasn't love at first sight but we always had a good conversation going so I saw him about once every week to two weeks starting last November, nothing more because we are both in school and then due to holiday travels, etc. January this year he was more eager to see me but I turned him down couple times then he literally disappeared (because he had to prepare for a series of interviews which was very stressful)I was really sad even though I didn't think I liked him that much. Three weeks later I tried to contact him, he then said he was done with interviews/traveling to NY for interview, etc and we started hanging out about once or twice weekly. He has always made it clear that dating to him involves sex and has tried to have sex but I have so far been turning him down. Last weekend of Feb, he took me on a trip to Tahoe where I got to meet some of his classmates and was indirectly introduced as his significant other. Indirectly because no title was used but because everyone shared a cabin so only people who bring significant others were given priority to stay in a room, which we did.

I became really into him after spending that weekend in Tahoe with him and started noticing when he didn't text or when he didn't text back, there have been about three times when I would get mad at him for not texting me all day until late at night and I have asked him about his weekend plans and questioned how come he didn't reserve time to spend with me. He's a full time student and his classmates are all extremely social because they are in business school. He literally has something going on for school or with classmates every night of the week and therefore the entire March especially the last two weekends when there were finals and projects, I only saw him once every week and about only 3 to 4 hours. Once was 9-1am after he completed his project.

His busy quarter ended on Friday two weeks ago and I found myself angry that he didn't call or text to see me because he was done with finals. I then initiated contact ( after wishing him good luck at 8am before his text)and I asked him to call me. On the phone I sounded obviously upset, to me I was expecting him to at least text to see how I was doing because he had nothing school related anymore. He replied and said he was going to a get together with his classmates and of course he noticed I was not too happy, he explain

Thanks for your comment but you forgot that last year the cap wanted to cheat on his girlfriend with me. I wouldn't technically call that losing a person since he was not worth anybody's time.
Now, can someone advise on how to pick up the conversation with him?

Ang, what you do now is to stop being clingy. Even if you can't control your clingy feelings on the inside, definitely control your clingy actions on the outside.

I can't take "cling", but if I see that someone has genuinely stopped imposing himself/herself on me then I will come back around.

Basically I tried to see him before he left but logistics didn't work out. I made the mistake of asking him to let me know if he is indifferent whether I'm around or not and of course I don't mean around as a friend. He then said maybe it makes sense to stay friends now because he's going to ny for summer internship in June. We had a couple back and forth texts about Europe right before he took off and did text a bit after he got back - I initiated. Left him completely alone during his trip, he got back Monday I texted Tuesday 5pm.

We've just talked about my work, he said he's been jet lagged and just cleaning and getting ready for new quarter which starts today, he used a couple smileys when he mentioned I left some stuff over at his place.

I'm going to not contact if he doesn't but I do want to give this a shot. Any ideas on how to interact would help. Thanks!
