No, as a non-tourist in that world, I am arguing that BDSM goes way beyond putting on latex and spanking somebody’s ass with a paddle until it bleeds, for mere sexual pleasure, as many vanilla people here have engrained in their head.

The reason this all started is that Ram was offended that the OP suggested BDSM could involve pain and chastised them for it. All she had to say was that some people just like the B or the D and not the S or the M. Frankly, it sounds like the BDSM scene has become pretty vanilla itself.

The way I read the OP is that BDSM "consists of pain", which is doesn't always. And reading through the thread, it seems those not regularly involved in the scene believe that also.
