So now you need to pay to be able to check your likes, among other things? Really? Sure, it's not a life or death feature, although it's fun to have at times, but I really don't like being limited in that way. Bad service and just darn greedy. So disappointed. What's next? Pay to be able to write posts?

You can't see who likes your posts?

Nope.

"This feature is currently only available for subscribers. Check back soon. Or become a subscriber now."

...and subscribing, you have to pay for, apparently.

But *they* should clarify this things tbh...even for older users.

Yup, it's a new account. You mean it comes for new accounts and not old ones?

Most likely it's like this since the subscription thingie came up.

Avoids people deleting all the time...and rewards others for keeping their acc.

This server costs money, the database, wasting time to manage and fix it...so yeah...it's not like i don't understand the purpose behind it.

And it's a common practice tbh...and it's just 13 bucks for a year...so it's not like it's the end of the world either πŸ™‚

I just think they should give a Heads Up to the users. That's also a common practice πŸ™‚

It's not the money as much as the principle for me. Common practice or not, I do think it's going to far. And I do agree that a heads-up would have been appreciated. Sure, I know it costs money to manage these things, but all those adds should make up for that by a mile.

Hmm. Could someone like one of my posts so I can check again. Maybe it was temporary?

I just volunteer to like one of your posts. Did you get the liked notification?

Thank you!

I get the notification, I can right click the "like" and see that it was you and in "notification" I can see that you liked a post and which one it was. So, perfect! Thanks again!

Then I check older likes and get the subscription text again. So, maybe it was a temporary thing?πŸ™‚

Ad money was never there. It's a gold rush type of economy where the only winners are the shovel sellers and the big players and everyone else is a sucker.

I can see the DXP owner tryng to scam new users while not angering old users who are making the life of the site and avoid them fleeing en masse to another welcoming non-greedy website that operates late in the shadows.

I think all these instances of paywall problems might just be scripting problems at the moment, but maybe indicative of where the site owner is going to go in the future

Depends what type of ad. For example anyone with an app and access to a user's mic on their phone/tablet is still opening new accounts with advertisers (i.e. Facebook).

But as far as the click ads, yes you're right. When the biggest ad accounts pulled out of Youtube earlier this year (around August) that was a nightmarish reminder for the rest of us that we're just swimming in their pool.

It doesn't LeoLilith...they get Cents out of it...and thats for a *missclik*...

They don't get money here just because the add it's there...this is not a big company...that's not how it works πŸ™‚

Video adds, like on a youtube video or a stream...it's like 10 cents (or less per add), and that's a *granted view.*.. ^^

when I registered in 2013 you couldn't even quote posts or edit your own posts, it had been like that for like 20 years, and suddenly all this new stuff was implemented

When I registered there were no likes or post reviews and stuff, but you could surely edit posts...I think... Can't remember exactly. But a lot of good things have been implemented, that's for sure.πŸ™‚

It's not enough though. Last year maybe it was enough to get by, this year since August every small publisher on the web knows that they had better go private and get loyal subscribers, or they will just die.

That's just the way the internet is going (shrugs).

Ad money on the web is long gone for everyone but the biggest sites.

There are some big sites on here. And do you really think DXP would bother to put all these banners up if they didn't get anything out of it? I do agree that it's probably less money now in it, though.

It's not a gold mine at all... πŸ™‚

Didn't think it was a gold mine, but I sure didn't think it was as bad as that either. But if you get too greedy, you may not even be making even those few cents. I'm sure many people here wouldn't leave anyway, but without new blood, it's just not going to go well in the long run, I would think.

Interesting. Thanks for the info! Unfortunately I only have a max of 3 likes here, so I can't check it. But I will as soon as/if I get it.πŸ™‚

New acc πŸ™‚

But *they* should clarify this things tbh...even for older users.

Yup, it's a new account. You mean it comes for new accounts and not old ones?

Maybe it doesn't pay for it...maybe *he* just wants to make a life out of this...who knows πŸ™‚

Can you blame him ? ^^

Other social media types of thingie are managed by big companies..they have many and vast ways of making money through it...and this place here got a very regular user basis.

And it does cut out the trolls fake acc...so yeah...it's not like *he* didn't try to cut that out in other ways.

It is what it is.

But i also understand your point, and you are also free to express your discontentment about it. πŸ™‚

Ofc, I can blame him. I'm not the one making the money. Jk. I know what you mean. I do think it's fair to charge for things, ofc. I just think this was going too far. I mean, that's a basic function on a forum like this. But that's just me.πŸ™‚

I understand ofc πŸ™‚

It's like a basic function that you had for free...and now it was *taken from you* and placed behind a pay thing.

But that's just because you deleted your account...if you had kept it....it wold be fine... πŸ™‚

So...not giving the heads up to the users...it's where *he* went a bittttt....greedy ^^

It is...what it is πŸ™‚

I see where you're coming from, but it just feels wrong to me. And, yes, overly greedy. Should I really be punished for deleting an account(if I had indeed done that)? If you want to keep your customers, then make them happy with the service. Imo.

I see it this way:

- you can attract people who make the site sexy and are ready to pay (12 $ per year) to have dxpnet as their daily ritual and where to put moods, or being applaused for sarcasm, maybe bullying,

- or you can attract still a chaotic combination of all types of people and the majority would pay.

In other words, if sexy people don't pay, boring people (like me and we are only a minority) bring no financial advantage.

Cause I never was good at public relation part of the economy (let's say sale), I'll just wait and observe.

Taurus-Gemini mixes, please step up and tell your view of the story. please!

The vast majority of the DXP users are probably the "non-sexy" ones, imo, it's just that most of them don't post. So if I were to make money out of this, I would be encouraging people to post and use the lurkers(and posters, ofc) to encourage larger companies to place adds. I do think there should be some way to squeeze money out of that, even if it, according to report here has been tougher now.

I totally get that there would be a fee for users to avoid seeing adds, but then again, some of that would probably have to go to the companies placing the adds, or they wouldn't benefit and thereby not be especially encouraged to place those adds in the first place.

The absolute best way, imo, would be to "trap" the lurkers into paying for accessing the entire site...if that would be doable. But idk. What I do know, though, is that this site depends on its posters - without them, they might as well close down.

I have neither facebook, nor am I interested in clicking on "who-liked".

But young masses seem to be interested.

Also they seem to use this site as a dating resource. so...

Yup. Agreed. It can be fun to know at times, but... I just don't like the limitation.

BTW I have an old acc, and pressed on like right to the number, cause I took it for the old like. Then there came the dialogue about "dxpnet subscription".

Hmm. Interesting. Where? What number? Are we talking notification or post?

Hmm. The only such "like" link I can find is the one attached to my OP, so I tried to click it and ended up at the subscription text place, I can't see a like button on my regular posts at all. Did you click an OP or a regular post?

Maybe my wording was not helpful. So I try it again. It was not a thread. It was the part I know through the words: comments, update and dashboard. First I wanted to like somebody else's update/comment and it came to that dialogue. I did not pay attention. Later I had my own update. There I saw there were two like areas. I clicked on the one right to the number. And found the dialogue and clicked further and understood what happened. Site owner has started to offer some functionalities that are not free. As a pessimist I thought how more functionalities could start to be added to the premium/subscriber variant. Like the private messaging which is free now.
