oh, and did you even try making a dev site? something like forums.dxpnet.com to see if you could get the adsense inserted there? the ads on the site right now are stupid and you've had to take a hit for this. if you're worried about lost seo value, why?
i'm just glad i'm not the only one who has the "You have 1 unread message" curse.
I used to look forward to that elusive juicy "1 unread message" when logging in. But now it's "2 unread messages", Which is a downer because sometimes you forget and you think you have 2 juicy messages, when in actual fact it's just 1. And the other is a duffer. A blank.

I applaud you on your efforts to revamp the site. Unfortunately, you lack consistency. You have undefined a href colors and random links appear in the standard 90s blue/purple. Why? Why are you so lazy? Cause we don't pay you for this? Yeah, I get it. You'll do it when you get around to it, but it's been a long time coming.
In the "hot topic" box in the right hand column, you didn't consider that a user might type a topic that lacks spaces. You know that "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..." one? You can fix this by using the overflow: hidden; property.
Overall, your lack of color coordination is the most glaring grievance. There's a great site: colorschemer.com. Pick a palette, find a replace the existing colors and voila!, you have something that doesn't look like a crayon box exploded.
Clean up your code. The footer is a hot mess.
Move the search bar up. When have you ever seen a forum that had a search bar at the bottom and not one...or at the very least a link to the search function at the top?
Try firebug. It allows you to adjust properties and test thing out without committing to the changes on a live site. In like 10 minutes you can play around with the colors and find a color scheme that works for you, ie...
