I just had an idea...maybe dxp could make it so that on the postings next to our member name, we could put a little picture there! Just to visually spice things up a bit, not that the site isn't visually appealing, it is, but just to add a little more individuality...you see what I'm saying?

that's really cute. but some people may want to remain private, which would be ok. Only those who wish to have a photo would be fun. I'll get to see how everyone looks.

Oh totally, yeah what I'm saying is, it doesn't have to be a picture of ourselves, just any lil picture would do, you know? Just like the ones we can put on our profiles, except now it would also be next to our member names on the postings. sorry about the delay in replying. running this site doesn't pay the bills, so i had to go begging for change on the street today 🙂

are you think of little icons that would be posted next to your name? like a bear? or a crab? smily face? can you point to any examples on the internet that you like?

Here are some ideas for icons. I think there should be a cute little icon that symbolises each sign (i.e, your crab idea)...like a little scorpion for scorpios, etc.

What I'm going to do is I'm going to look around on the net dxp, and post some URL's for you so you can get an idea about what I mean.

So when I find some I will post the URLs here : )

I've found a few sites with "avatars" that you can use on message boards, by searching with google for "message board avatars"...I'll keep looking till I find some really cool ones.

www.freeavatars.net has a lot of neato avatars...you just have to look around the site (some of the pics are graphic or just plain stupid, lol)...

Anyway I tried to copy one of the pictures into this text box but it didn't work. So maybe dxp it would be easier on you to make it so we can copy pics into the text boxes?

if you know a little HTML, i think you can currently put images in with your message. consider this a free first lesson 🙂

You need to include the full address of the image, you left out the http://... part. and there needs to be a space (img src)

if you don't put the full address of the image, it looks for the image on dxpnet.com and it's not there, so it doesn't work. don't give up now

What about emoticons...I love emoticons...

I think phoenix would be happy with some nice little smiling emoticons...ummm...some sad, grumpy, happy, rosey cheeked ones too...

dxp, thanks so much for the help, now I have one more question to bug you with...how can I type in a web address for the picture I want to use when it's not from the web, it's been copied and saved in "My Pictures" in "My Computer"? Again thank you a million times for the help! : )

you can't get pictures to show up on the web, if they are on your computer (unless your computer is a server).

you'll need to upload the images to a web host. you can get free accounts like geocities.com, homestead.com, etc.

your code is right, but i don't think yahoo lets people serve images off of that site. and when i go to your image's address, i get an error message. you need to find a different web host. i would get with your ISP, because you usually get free web space with your account

P.S. I just had an idea! What do you think about putting a "life sentence" on the topics that get zero responses? Like for example, let the topic stay up for a certain amount of time, but if it doesn't draw any interest, take it down? My logic is maybe that it will encourage people to write really interesting, thought-provoking topics, as opposed to, say, "My Saliva" or something like that (I know it would encourage ME to do that more--write more interesting topics that is).

Maybe it's just the drugs talking though. lol.

How are you, my cancer friend? I think people forget to ask you that. Maybe they see you as like, "Boss Man Bing" ("Friends") because of your moderator status or something. But I always wonder about you dxp. You're always off somewhere, teaching orphaned whales to swim, selling your stuff on the corner...lol.
