Thread Troll Control

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's to create a thread and have someone come on and vandalize it with a flood of profuse vulgarity, obscenity, or defamation to the complete disregard of anyone else around. I realize this is a public forum but what gives people a right to blast their obscenities all over well-meaning posts or to deliberately antagonize people with this form of behavior in order to push their buttons?

I'll tell ya what kinda button I'd like to push! A DELETE button! On my own thread when a poster has gone too far. If people knew their posts could (and would!) be deleted by the thread creator if they were deemed inexcusably offensive, maybe they'd bother to behave themselves!

This will never happen. And shall I tell you why? If everyone had the ability to delete those at random that spoke up, offended ones person ( and truly that's quite subjective ) this entire place would be one whistling maze of tumbleweeds blowing through it. That is what I rather like about this place. Everyones views. Good, bad, indifferent. If they'd like to have a play and veer off in conversation, big deal. To in effect be an overseer flogging all the 'naughties' that do not steer the course and stay on topic like good little robots goes against what being a public forum is all about.
There are buttons to press and use if you feel violated. "Block User" being one of them. Of course, you are free to block anyone as you choose, but from what I've seen so far is you are the only one offended. No one else is.

I agree with venusianbull,Free speech is the way to go. Everyone should say how they feel if that's what they feel like doing in that moment in time. Someone is always going to get offended whether there's vulgar language or not.It all depends on the issues at stake.

Sorry you are upset SA (I can understand the frustation), but I agree with VB.

Regarding buttons - sometimes people don't realize they are pushing someone else's buttons, and sometimes people will deliberately push other people's buttons to get a reaction (it becomes a sport - one of my brothers used to do it to my Mom all the time 🙂 ). When it's the latter happening to me, I "disable" my buttons (I don't react), the person pushing stops getting the reward, gets bored and goes off in search of "more fruitful" buttons to push. It can be rather amusing watching the dynamic play out. 🙂

Well, I'm about to get my reward, Drago8, by deleting this thread altogether. So much for everybody's free speech. 😉

My whole mindset had nothing to do with "Dy's New Name" or with Dy at all. It had to do with people targeting me every time I post a new thread about grasshopper antenna's or pink wallpaper or why it rains on Saturday and deliberately blitzing my benign threads with page upon page of "hate speech" or 15 mile-long re-posted quotes . . . all with the exclusive motive to antagonize the hell out of me. So not funny. I don't do that to people around here and they've targeted me merely b/c I've agreed with Dy on issues in the past and they're haters. Like, where's the maturity level around here?

Venusian, it has nothing to do with creating robots out of people and there are pros/cons on either side of the fence, true. But you're not the one being antagonized EVERY FRICKIN' TIME YOU CREATE A THREAD! just because the thread creator is Venusian Bull. I say this benignly b/c I like you. But enough's enough. It's pathetic.

Anyhoo . . . enjoy yall's free speech for a day or two and then I'm baggin' this one. Why? Because I can. 😛
