I've been talking to this leo (I'm a cancer) and he is just to overly affectionate and compliments me every minute. Major turn off for me I felt like vomiting with how overly expressive he is.. Is this how they usually are or should I be careful?

Very genuine and the only way to know if it is a game is to play.
What can a bunch of E-strangers tell her...no he is lying, run for the hills, get out now, the sky is falling, the sky is falling....and people wonder why they are single. Stop looking for something to be wrong. My goodness.
Lastly, being careful when entering into a new relationship is common sense, is it not?

Leo's are expressive, Cancers are reserved. He could be trying to draw you out of your shell. If you are overly reserved, this could ignite his need to draw you out. Thereby him being "overly" expressive with compliments and affection. He probably feels you need this. Or he is trying to draw out in you what he himself needs. Cancers like attention but we don't like nor need THAT much. It embarrasses us, puts our shy nature in the spotlight. But if you are going to pursue a relationship with a Leo, you have to get used to being in the spotlight.

Another theory, my experience with single unattached Leo males is that they are not excessive with affection nor compliments. But they will say something positive to you and about you. They try to protect their ego so they will not be THAT excessive.
Now the married and committed Leo males on the hunt are a different story. They do what you described. Trying to win you over with no concern for their ego because if it doesn't work out, they still have a woman at home.

Hahaha yes! It's not that I don't like to get complimented its just that its excessive and I'm just not used to it and you know how cancers are we always have our guards up so if you keep repeating yourself its going to sound fake and that is why i was concerned.

This is exactly right! He rushes things way to fast and I just want to take it slow. I feel like I need to take my time and really figure things out while on the other hand he just jumps into things blindly and he even told me he feels like I have a wall up most of the time so maybe he is trying to get the wall down who knows.. Lol I guess you or celticlioness never had suspicions on someones behavior before? I have never dealt with guys who are sweet talkers who call you beautiful every 5 minutes someone who wants to jump in a relationship with you after 2 weeks of getting to know the person. I think i have a right to be kind of weirded out.

Plus by me asking this i will know I can figure out if leos are genuinely this affectionate towards people they like and if they are then thats something I will have to work with him if I want the relationship to go further.

Well, I wouldn't say that his behavior would make me wanna vomit, but I would definitely keep an eye or two out on him. Yes, sometimes when a man is overly affectionate and gives you too many compliments, it can come off like he's trying too hard and it's kind of cheesy. He could be a player but who knows. Only time can tell, but until then you can either just enjoy it or be honest with him and tell him it's kind of cheesy. Lol! Idk. I actually had a leo man do this to me before and it was hilarious. I couldn't really take him seriously but we weren't dating or anything. He was just a guy I saw around. And yes Leo men can definitely sweet talk the pants right off of you. So be cateful. You're a fellow water sign and we are great at reading through peoples shit. You got this! 🙂

Anyway, yes tell him to tone it down, he will - but you won't last with him. He may end up joining the ranks of men who do start playing women because they feel that being nice gets them nowhere, and women must, after all, prefer the bastards - and women wonder why men feel like this!
Alternatively just accept the excessive compliments graciously because they won't last, nobody sustains the first flush of relationship highs for very long and you might just miss it all when it's gone.
