She is not a Libra, no, but I do adore the perspectives many of you can see. Maybe it's my Venus. 🙂

And it's my boyfriend who is the strongest opposer to Mao. He won't stop me, but he might like the cat less too. It would take a long time for him to come to like the name. He is slow to change. He won't judge me for it, but it'd be nice if he doesn't develop this distaste for calling her from across the room. 😢 And a certain uncle of mine was sarcastic with the name when I almost used it on my last cat, saying oh cool, name the cat after a communist dictator! He was actually all for it. He's an abrasive character who spits overly-caustic things out without ever thinking them through and we don't particularly get along. He's hurt me many times. I'm not sure that he means to, but he doesn't trust me, and this comes out in spades. He doesn't even trust me talking with his kids who are my cousins. So when he liked the name and told me why, I decided against it immediately, at the time.

Since then I've decided that said communist dictator is simply named after a cat, and therefore the name has no negative meaning in and of itself! Stupid dictator guy. Lovely sounding name. And it means "true center" from most sources. 🙂 But I'd like for my boyfriend to like the cat, too. To be able to call her from across the room without cringing. We've been together for a little over a year. For me, that's a record. I don't date much. I tend to think in terms of spending a very long future with him.

I am now personally debating between Mao, Miyu, and Mira (found this last on a site about Bengal cats!). My last cat was named Trip Hazard (he was a leg wrapper!) and I quickly taught him to come to "Here, Trip!". I will be doing the same with this cat because I found it both endearing and sometimes useful. It involves sardines and tuna. Cats like the trick as much as I do. 😄 So she would be:

"Here, Mao!" (mah-o)
"Miyu!" (mee-yoo)
"Mira!" (mee-rah)
I like the two-syllables thing, so I'd drop the "Here" for the longer names.

She's a muttsy (best kind) who resembles some partial Bengal or Egyptian Mau (Mau = Mao!). I don't care about officialities but she's adorably chatty and does pat at her water dish, then lick her paw. And has spots. I used the "Here, Trip!" command to locate a hidden kitty before, but I am finding that sometimes I simply walk into the room and this cat locates herself. With chirps. Neat!

Miyu's potential meanings seem to fit a general theme of some cat names: ma = true/full, and yi can be anything from truth to superiority to evening. I think it's funny to call a cat superior because cats already think this of themselves by default. The paranoid in me also reminds: "Don't give her permission, jeez!" So calling her 'superior' in a beautiful language would be some sort of irony that I can't currently decide between being all for, or all against. It is pretty. It is vaguely hard to remember, currently.

Mira isn't a hugely common name but a few sources say that it is Hindu/Sanskrit for "sea, ocean" or Latin for "look, admirable". I'm not officially finding a pronunciation for it but am going to go with a guestimate of (mee-rah).

She is currently sleeping on my desktop and twitching all over the place. :O Soooooo much energy in this one! Her 'sibling' is Naomi, the mutt dog who looks like a small white wolf or German shepherd. At the time I thought she had some Canaan in her (turns out Whippets share her same paw and DNA test confirmed Whippet instead), and the area of Canaan is like the Biblical places, where Naomi was a person rescued by new family and came to love them...

Okay, so I put a lot of thought into names.

You don't want to name her something with too many syllables anyway. You gotta keep it short and sweet with animal names.

Mira sounds pretty, though. I like it better than Mao.

I put a lot of thought into my fur baby's name when I was waiting for her to turn 6 weeks old. I looked up pet names and found one I liked. Never called her by her full name, just the nickname haha.

I miss my bub. 😢
