A very weird question

Yeah, so, I'm wondering if anyone else who works on their feet all day (standing, walking, crouching, etc) for their job knows of a REALLY GOOD SHOE that helps curb the intense throbbing pain. It makes me so cranky when I get off work...I know..."that's life", but with today's technology you'd think they'd have made something relatively cute AND comfortable. I spent 70 dollars on these shoes by Easy Spirit (uh oh, dork alert! lol)...they're alright for up to five/six hours, but like seven, eight hour shifts are torture for my tootsies. They're "okay" looking, definitely not cute, but they do the job, and since my work pants are long they generally cover my shoes. At work, I don't care about "sexiness", per se, just want to look professional and put-together (cute shoes would be an added bonus). Anyway these shoes, the (jeez, shameful) 70 dollar ones, they're specifically "for" working women who're on their feet a lot. So It's possible I just have really sensitive feet...but it's silly that they only feel good for like 5 hours.

Oh God help. 🙂

It's pretty common to get sore feet after 5 or 6 hours of standing on them. I used to stand on my feet alot and as soon as i would get the chance, and if i could (if I physically 'could') I would try to lean on something, like a bench, or whatever was at the back of the counter, just to take the weight off my poor tootsies. If you are standing for long periods of time though, be sure to stand straight with your shoulders back or else you could get a bad posture. When i used to lean on something, usually a desk or a bench, i would do so just enough to take some of the weight off my feet, but still try to maintain a straight posture as i was doing it to... a) not look sloppy at work, and b) to preserve my posture.

As for shoes, i am not familiar with the ones you are describing, but i go for sneakers/trainers, or shoes that are designed to be 'walked' or 'ran' in. Maybe try some inner-soles. I'm thinking maybe even try to walk around on the spot a little; perhaps your feet need a bit more blood flow.

As for dealing with sore feet, the best way is to stay off them period. During your break try to sit down and even put your feet 'up' so the blood has a chance to run back down into other parts of your body, namely your legs.

Working on your feet is one of those things that may get easier with time, but no matter how much you do it, you might find the last two hours of your shift a strain. Better than the whole shift though.

I know 'that's life', but part of life is dealing with little pains and problems like this 😉

Good luck.

LOL. . . I feel your pain phoenix. . . I too have sensitive feet.

I find that very very old already lived in sneakers are the only shoes that I can get by long shifts in. Oh man, there's a hole in my shoe. . . Oh well. . . At least my feet don't hurt. *sigh* 😛

And the easy spirit shoes, I've tried those. . . They gave me a nice open wound on the back of my heel. stupid shoes. . . I give up on finding new shoes. There aren't any that fit and are comfortable. Maybe it's because I have big feet or something. LOL. . .

Libragirl is right, it get's easier with practice. Footsies adjust 😛

Libragirl and Morganofmind -- thanks very much for your posts. At least I'm not the only one w/this issue. lol. LG I took your advice and put my feet up for a couple minutes on my break, and it actually helped a lot. Of course, my feet hurt a whole lot more the other night when another coworker "accidentally" didn't show up for his shift, and I ended up working for ten hours to cover for him. Grrrr...Morgan - sorry to hear of the open wound thing, that's horrible. I'm suprised easy spirits did that to you - isn't it funny how they market a shoe to be the best thing in the world, and really it ends up being no better than any Payless shoe or something? And many dollas later you're like....BASTARD SHOE COMPANIES, LIARS, LIARS...!

I must say that I did get a pair of Birkenstock sandals that are suprisingly cute this past summer, and they really do live up to their claims. But of course, sandals aren't allowed at work.

You know, that's part of my problem...I can't wear tennis shoes, or sneakers, really, to work. But these easy spirit shoes "look" like tennis shoes (but they're a bit dressier, or something). But really it's a "career shoe". Oh God...shoe crisis...lol.
