So a girl I know had a kidney transplant a few years ago and she just found out that her body is rejecting it. I am seriously thinking of letting her know that I will be a donor for her. I am wondering if she has already had one transplant will her body reject a second? I know when my brother had leukemia both my sister and brother were matches, which is almost unheard of! With bone marrow transplants only family member can be matches. He ended up have a bone marrow transplant form both, his body rejected the first one and then he ended up passing away from his doctors negligence. I am curious to know if anyone here knows about this kind of stuff? Also what is to be expected, if it is something I can do? I've been googling stuff all morning but was hoping for firsthand knowledge on it. From what I am reading anyone can be a kidney donor but are there certain aspects that make one more compatible then the other. And this would also mean I would have to get over my fear of needles and hospitals!

Ok thank you tcta.

Before I talk to doctor or the person I know going through this I am researching it cause that's what I do. That is why I asked here. Just wondering if anyone had any first hand knowledge of it, either because they have been through it have family or friends who have.

From all I'm reading it doesn't really compromise your health but my age is something to consider since I will be 42 in April. I'm very healthy now so if anything was to happen I think it would be why down the road and that is a chance I am willing to take. I had a brother die and as long as a doctor said it was ok for me, health wise, I would do it. If it gives her more time with her son and family to me it is worth it.
