It's also a part of Irish tradition...which survived into Irish Catholicism...
for example
Saint Brigid of Kildare (525)
In his book Round Ireland in Low Gear, Eric Newby records that at this present day among the Catholics of Ireland there is a tradition that Saint Brigid in her previous life was the one who led the Virgin Mary to the place where she was purified at Bethlehem after the birth of Jesus.
The acceptance of reincarnation is very present in Irish catholics.
And I am pagan..not catholic and i do believe in it.
But we are taught to think of the rising of the Christ as a form of re-incarnation.
And people are taught god chose his son to suffer ...to teach us. Not because his son did a bad thing.

Posted by MontgomeryThere are two answers i would give thee. Numero uno ...bear in mind I tend to think of Jesus as the poor working class schmuck the 12 desert middle class boys got to take the rap while they made an empire on his rep.Posted by LittleFairyTeach about what?

I was wondering how you tied in the suffering.
'And people are taught god chose his son to suffer ...to teach us.'
"...we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character and character produces hope and hope does not disappoint us." (Rom 5:1)
most suffering is the result of the actions of other people, but some suffering is simply pointless and outside the bounds of human control like natural disasters.. most if not all the evils in this world results from human action though..
catholics think that they emulate the suffering of jesus when troubles come their way..
hope can be a means of escape after all
many other bible passages support this thought:
