I don't think all doctors screen for it though, you should ask. And I think they only screen for the cancer causing strains. However, because it is a virus, there is really nothing that can be done it just needs to run its course. If positive, the doctor would most likely have you come back more frequently for paps to make sure there are no cellular changes which could indicate the pre-development of cancer.

I'm like the only one of my friend's that doesn't have HPV...lol....

but none of them have the warts. One girl did have cervical cancer already at age 17, had to have it removed and has to have a pap done every 6 months.
The other 2 never showed symptoms, just found out when they got their annual pap.

Apparently they don't even test men for HPV either so they just act as carriers, most of the time never realizing they're carrying until a bunch of past sexual partners call them up and let them know. 🙂

Makes you really think hard about it, doesn't it.

I wonder if people engage in unprotected sex if they believe that they are in an exclusive relationship? Tons of people think all the time that they are with their soul mates, only to later find out 4 days later that it was just an infatuation.

But, during that time, when they thought it was Mr. Right ... did they do it unprotected because they thought he would be the only sexual partner forever?

I think syphilis and chlamydia is more common than HPV. So that would mean over half? I know this cause when you go in for std tests, they give you one of those little std booklets LOL!!!

I didn't realise syphilis was so common. I associate it with Victorian England for some reason.

I know there is a Chlamydia epidemic in the UK. They are always talking about the chlamydia epidemic and how it will lead to a boom in ivf in future years.

There is NO FDA approved general test for HPV, and it's spread through skin to skin contact. Condoms don't prevent the spread of it (or herpes). The Gardasil vaccine also doesn't protect you from all strains of HPV. You're always at risk of contracting an STD if you're sexually active, whether you're in a so-called "exclusive" sexual relationship (you never know if someone's cheating, and even if they aren't, they might still have HPV because there's no real test for it) or banging everything in sight.

indeed...life is a risky business.

I did a report on HSV (Herpes) during my undergrad. I think it was 20% of the sexually active adult popluation has it. Whats worse is that 80% of those that have it dont know it. There was a blood test for herpes last I checked but it couldnt differentiate between HSV-1 (cold sores) and HSV-2 (genetial Herpes). TO further confuse things you can get either HSV1 or HSV2 on either the mouth or genetials.
