What do you guys think of the term influencer?

A lot more people want to be known nowadays, a lot of people on Instagram seem to be competing to have the best life.

Most want to have a lot followers, to show themselves go on the best holidays, have the best clothes, cars and just seem like their lives are constantly busy by going to events etc.

Although I’m not on social media, I’m definitely not against any of it, especially if it turns into a extra income by becoming a brand ambassador or getting paid ads, I find it interesting.

Can it be deemed an actual profession now?

And what Star signs are most inclined in wanting to be an influencer?

Yeah, everybody wants to be a human billboard now.

I think you'll find all 12 signs accurately represented when it comes to living a pretend life online.

Whenever I meet somebody who wants to call themselves an influencer, I immediately consider punching them in the face- twice, with both fists. 🙄🙄🙄

Lool

So you wouldn’t consider it a real profession?

And what if you met someone who was making a lot of money from it, would you be open to dating them?

For an extremely select few, yes. Think about how many people are online everyday and realize that probably less than 0.001% of that population actually does anything useful.

True, I’ve realised the people that mostly call themselves influencers fit into the makeup, fashion, hair or are some sort of model category. I SEE THIS MORE AS SETTING TRENDS.

Considering there’s a lot more going on in this world should that title be geared more towards influencing people to vote, fighting injustices etc?

I mean, if they're getting a decent income and are passionate about it then I don't see wot the problem is with it imo x

I agree, as long as they’re saving and investing the money they’re making into something else I don’t see the issue.

Like the Instagramer Jessy Taylor who had her account randomly shut down, and lost roughly 100,000 followers. She made her money from it and was “nothing” without her followers, she more than likely never invested her money.

Must admit, I did think at first the influencer outlook was a bit shallow and narcissistic but meh, you move with the times.

Sure, if they are getting paid to get people to think about a certain subject or thing, why not call them influencer?

In that regard you might as well call all marketing majors in college influencers. They get paid.

🤔 Hmmm true.

I do thinm the term influencer naturally sounds more powerful, perhaps. it’s an ego thing 🤷🏽‍♀️.

I’m trying to become an influencer because I can’t physically go to work. So far, I am a brand ambassador for one company. And I am talking to another company about it so I hope it works. I just started doing this a week ago and only got the idea like two weeks ago. Actually someone told me all about it cause I didn’t know, and I was like HUH?? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!!! Then I was all holy shhhhhhit this is actually a thing so then I started looking for brands. But I already have 11k followers so I think that’s why I was able to get a brand so fast. I hope this works. I haven’t been able to physically work in 9 months so this has to work.

I do think for reasons like you’ve stated why it would be appealing to those who have to find other work alternatives.

I do think the general consensus is that millennials are becoming lazy and don’t want to work hard for anything, but I think we have figured out how to work smart not hard.

Do you think you now have the right to call your self an influencer because of your 11k followers? If not what number or what do you actually have to do to be able to deem yourself an influencer?

I have respect for the ones that manage to make a proper living out of it. Better respect for the ones who do manage to motivate people and get in touch with their audience on a level that does help motivate people or change their perspective for the better.

Most of em, in my humble opinion can tongue-kiss a fat dick.

Narcissists and crooks with no balls to endeavour in fraud that brings them proper income.

Most are also bottom-feeding, freeloading, twerps that are a few notches shy of dabbling in a pyramid scheme.

The amount of ''micro-influencers'' (their term, not mine) who appeal to my hotel for a free stay in return for repping us on their ig is unreal and very laughable.

So you would rather they get into a life of crime? Lol

I do feel you on the aspect of some of them begging for the privileges, some are willing to do anything for the life style i.e. Dubai porta potty 👀

Do you not consider marketing a product or wanting to be noticed for your sense of style a positive aspect?

Honestly, I don't really care what anyone says. We're all entitled to our own opinion but I think the whole thing is stupid. It's an easy way to make a lot of money. I get that it's difficult time wise, but there is really no moral growth from it. I just don't understand why all women want to take their clothes off for the gram. I mean... no offense.. this is just my opinion. But, I guess it just depends on what you're doing. If you're "modeling" by showing your tits on camera, I may have to question your validity to real world change; however, if you're selling clothes to try and raise money and awareness for the children in third world countries, that's a different story. There is good and bad to everything I guess. I just don't see how any of that can bring someone internal fulfillment and peace. But, like I said, to each their own

What about people who use it to showcase their work? or to build a portfolio?

I know of a young woman who is a fashion model trying to get scouted, she is hoping that the right pepple come across her page.

It’s cheaper and smarter than paying for an actual agency.

It can be all smoke and mirrors, allowing people with over inflated egos to feel some sort of short term gratification.

I do get where you’re coming from though...

All I'm saying is go big or go home. If you can persuade people to buy a bubble gum kelp organic anal cleanse, you probably have the skill and charisma to enterprise in other, more fruitful schemes.

I'm gonna have to Google the Dubai porta potty lol.

I feel like it's marketing and self-billboarding is just a desperate epidemic of self-gratification. It's an easy form of escapism imo. Fake it til you make it on overdrive, basically. No substance or true benefit basically. It irks me to see people so passionate and invested in a waste of time.

Do you honestly think a lot of them have it like that?

I think a lot of them are very generic and basic.

I feel it is a shame that some of the most basic people are put on a pedestal and actually have no real charisma, substance, or persuasive skills, but what they do have in common is “Pretty” privilege.

People will actually flock to follow and buy what they are advertising for shallow reasons, so at this point I blame the consumers, we give them the platform to inflate their egos.

Definitely watch it, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

I always kinda cringe tho thinking about their husbands/boyfriends/girlfriends/wives who are on the other side of the phone reduced to a walking selfie stick following their asses around.

Its not how I'd want to make my money but I can see how it has its perks as a marketing tool.

Celebrities use it as well to invite the common average person into a glimpse of their life.

Theres one woman I follow who is so real. Yes she posts the before and after photos beautifully style d. But in between she posts the mess and dust and ruble and sweaty no makeup on camera talking about the real pitfalls of renovation.

Fake, no substance, no respect from me.

Sorry.

Lol, ouch.

Wouldn’t date an influencer then?

If by "influencer" you mean half-naked people on the internet, then no. They only things they're influencing are masturbation and unrealistic ideas of women's bodies. Keep in mind I'm practically an old lady.

It's all kinda weird to me. I'll get into Instagram, have a ton of fun looking through everything and connecting with people for a few days... then get really tired of looking at the whole thing and log out a few weeks. It's whatever but crazy to me that it's some people's entire lives.

I do think it is a good idea to have a healthy balance and be able to “unplug”.

I think the sad reality is that some peoples lives are more fulfilling online rather than real life. Sad, but true.

I’m finding a lot of instagramers are going down this route now because people are waking up to their not so perfect picture life.

They need to come across more relatable to maintain an audience, but then again they can still filter what they show.

Do you think it’s a shallow “job”?

Instagram by it's nature is a farce. One is capturing a single moment, but portraying it as if it's an accurate depiction of their life or that particular context.

Egos and vanity have ran off the rails.

Stuff like Instagram and social media only effects the weak and kind of uneducated minded

People have been presenting a false image of themselves, marriage, their family, life, their beliefs, whatever to the public since the beginning of time

It's only now that we see this "fake presentation" on social media and some people get triggered by it when they should be smart enough to see through it.... Of course no one is going to air their dirty laundry publicly on social media, or atleast, most wouldn't, why would they?

As for the influencer thing, it's like, you know this person is selling an image, they are creating/are a "brand," they are doing a job and they are making themselves (the influencer, the person who SELLS/promotes the product) look as good as possible (obviously) so they can reach a large following and have an actual influence and a reliable audience that either trusts their opinion or buys the shit because they want to live vicariously through the influencer

Either way, it's a #business and it's no ones fault that some people get fooled by some of the marketing strategies or by some corrupt influencers x

I mean, all jobs are shallow. (edit: most jobs, should've said ALL sales jobs)

We can just see this one very clearly for what it is.
