As for me, realizing that I didn't have to live my life under my mother anymore.
getting laid off by IBM.... then realizing I hated the job anyway.
I cried like a punk at first, but it forced me to get off my butt- apply for grad school and get an even better job than the one I had at IBM. That job at IBM was terrible- the department I was in would have eventually pigeon-holed my skills.
