I’m moving the last of my stuff across country. The guys are picking up my stuff from a storage unit, and on our first call this morning mentioned his request gratuity a lot.

Now I know I used a cheaper service, and I’m not sure how much these guys are getting paid to move my stuff, and I’m happy to show my appreciation.

But he keeps saying its 10% to 20% of the total, and throwing in things like, you had some extra picture’s that needed to be boxed up, and eluding to the fact that he wouldn’t change my inventory list even if I had more stuff. I really have no idea because I'm not there.

He gave me his personal cash app info (because I’m not there in person to give him cash)

I get it 10% to 20% is a reasonable gratuity, but then I think… they're only doing half the job. And I’m going to have someone else show up at my house asking for the same thing.

What do you think? what would you pay?

Whatever you decide do the tip AFTER the job is complete. If your stuff is all banged up…😖😖

I wont ever know, it could take weeks to get here. they did wrap up my vacuum cleaner in a moving blanket. Everything else was already packed and wrapped.

Ok I see your quandary. Then just tip whatever amount your ok with even if your shit is damaged. If its through cash app you can always send more a few weeks later when you see it, if in fact they did a great job.

Moving someone's stuff is hard work. I think tipping is totally appropriate, but the way in which the manager approached you isn't. I wouldn't punish the workers just because the manager was pushy and rude.

He was a mover, just the lead on the job.

Ah yeah, that's tough then. I would tip, but mention that the way he approached the subject was rude and wanting. Idk though, tipping is to show gratuity and him behaving that way contradicts that. Tough one

They're never gonna get tips it they don't ask, no one wants to tip a mover, so much so that they make a dxp thread about it.
