No, I need to watch to make sure you aren't distracted from your studies. A degree means money.

Yes. I want him to experience once in a lifetime opportunities. Of course, I would hope I have given him enough advice and information, that he would be able to be independent. I would miss him though.

When someone feels the need to begin making those decisions, it's time to have those conversations about loosening boundaries and proving one's ability to be responsible as more freedom is allowed by parents. If the parents are unwilling to loosen their grip, then it sounds like they'll have to wait until they're 18 or when they move out.

I wouldn't make them buy a house but I will ask them to pay rent once they turn 18 and are still living at home. What they don't know is I will save this money and gift it towards a down payment on their first home.
As far as controlling where they live once in college and their access to friends, dating, and social media...well I'd be more concerned that they have good judgement. I want to install strong morals and make sure if they encounter an iffy situation they are prepared to deal with it. My parents sheltered us to the extreme. Intention was good but it did more harm than good imo.
