I thought this article was very funny way to approach this topic. There is a difference between depression and self made negativity. I find that people who are truely miserable/depressed usually suffer at the hands of make-up-misery artists.

I just finished a project with youths who suffer from BPD and Bipolar. A common theme for them was they lived in environments where family members were narcissistic, hypercondriacs or generally grumpy, shit disturbers. Another theme was living in a highly disfunctional setting, yet all adults pretending that the environment was perfectly normal.

These kids don't have the tools to deal with these behaviors in the adults that are meant to guide them... and psychologically find ways to cope.
