The 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet is often praised for its classic portrayal and musical score, while the 1996 adaptation offers a modern take with updated visuals and language. Preferences vary based on style and era. Both films interpret Shakespeare's story differently, appealing to different audiences and tastes.
I enjoyed 1996 ver., too π
but somehow I am more inclined to 1968 ver. ..just a personal preference I guess hehehe
in 1996 ver. ..Leo Dicap was like an angel lol..very sweet, angel-like face!
I remember liking the old one when I first saw it in my early teens, one of the things I liked is re-playing the scene when Olivia Hussey gets out of bed and you get a glipse of her bush, lol. And it did appeal more to my sentiments too.
Didn't see the appeal of the 1996-version back then, but then I was always against radical and fresh concepts. I remember it took me 10 years before I actually enjoyed 'The Matrix', because when it came out everyone was into it, and well, it takes a long time for me to catch up.
Why am I telling you this, you ask? Because I'm a Leo and I like talking about myself. Anyway, these days I think both versions are equally good on their own merits.

It's okay lol I like talking about myself, too..
and well, that would be the point if no one but me appear on this thread..? π
I like to hear what others think about this movie, that film, those books, &.
if I didn't need any opinion of thought of others, I would've just taken out my little memo book and written down 'I watched this and that - 201x/xx/xx' hehehehe
it's interesting for me to hear how others' minds work..
ahhh so you focused on the bush.. lol I on her boobs lol such big boobs on a girl with such a lovely, innocent face..it was like a crime lol wish I had big boobs, too lol
but then romeo was sweet looking..well..after all, I'm a straight girl lol
I enjoyed the 1996 ver. as well..it was quite well modernized and adapted ver. of the original shakespeare..but somehow the old ver. made me shed tears at the end whilst the new ver. did not..and it's a quite rare experience for me to cry when watching a movie..so probably there, I gave it more to the old ver. hehehe π
Lol, kidding aside, no I didn't solely focus on the bush. I was 13, what can you expect? π But yeah, I've always been weak for brunettes and the girl in the old version was such a gorgeous specimen!
I thought it was just briliant in the new version how they let Julia open her eyes long before he takes the poison, without him seeing it despite being by her side - well, those few seconds felt like an eternity at least - and that somehow felt even more tragic. I was equally taken by the twisted scheme of fate in the old version... but I took it like a boy on the verge of manhood, I didn't cry dammit! At least I didn't do that!! *sobs*
Actually I was impressed by myself at that age that I've seen a movie that didn't have fighting and explosions and that didn't star Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris or Steven Seagal (don't worry honey, they were before your time)
...and that I actually enjoyed it! lol

1968 is beautiful. I prefer the fancy hats and clothingThe theme: The 1968 movie goes with a proper 13 Century look whereas the 1996 movie goes with a more Modern look.
yes...I must say that those fancy and periodic costumes from the 1968 ver. did score better with me hehehe π

she was truly gorgeous in the film.. π I prefer brunets when it comes to men..(not that I have not dated blonds lol)..comes to women..both blondes and brunettes will do lol (appreciate their beauty)..though I care more about men lol..as I wrote, after all, I'm a straight girl
hmmmm I don't quite remember the scene..must be a long time has passed since I watched the 1996 ver. I guess I may need to rewatch it π felt even more tragic.. mmmmm π
lol you cried, didn't you? it's okay lol I watched it the first time with many people and saw some guys sniffing and having a hard time not to sob lol that was cute..
when I first was introduced the old ver. my first impression was.. 'what's this? π' (the acting..it seemed quite exaggerated compare to today's acting..and I though it funny!) but as it went on, I got sucked in it and like you, I actually enjoyed it much lol
Some Youtube douche shortened the clip, but you get the gist. π π
ahhhh thank you for the vid! π
Wait, what other girl? What's Romeo been up to? LOL
But your cynical nature has to take into consideration that they were very young, Julia was 13 I believe, which makes their love all the more pure and tragic. The whole backdrop with the feud between the two families reinforces that notion - it draws a clear line between the purity of their love, and the tainted, cynicism of the adult world that would have eventually torn them apart, had they not died young. π
So in that sense, their love remains forever pure, true and untainted.
The beauty of death is that it can forever freeze a moment in time while the rest of the world goes on.
1996 version.
I loved the subtle humor throughout the film, especially in the gas station "shoot out" scene.
That part always cracks me up.
"Did you bite your thumb at me, Sir?"
"NO!!!! I did not bite my thumb at you, SIR!!!!"
Hahahaha!!!!
1968. It has been ages since I ve seen either though. I think I like some of the lines included in the 1996 one that werent included in the 1968 one though...
