Billy Bob thornton can really write films. lol

I really liked this film he starred in...

about a mentally disabled man who lived in the mental institution for many years.

Spoilers

i can see his Aquarius moon, in the story, where he wants a better society, world of people, despite him being so disabled. There's an innocent quality about him where he sees how the world should be -- good and kind and moral and decent. And he is upset about it, when he sees the ugly.

and also how he cherishes books alot. his most prized possessions.

oh of course, his Leo stellium. lol The child-like love, his connection with children and how he wants the world to be pure through his eyes, and bring them into the world raised with good morals and values.

Billy Bob is a classic case of a late bloomer in film.

What happened to him though? His career seemed to have gone south after his marriage to and subsequent divorce from Angelina Jolie.

i thought this film would be good, the screenplay tight, but it wasn't the case

too pretentious, a bit like manchester by the sea - heavy-handed, long, and takes itself too seriously

Well it was his first full length film in the big leagues. I went in not expecting anything from an almost unknown director/screenwriter. I wasn't disappointed. I'd say it was good, by first attempt standards.

watched it pretty recently, blurb said its got an excellent script i think it was nominated for an oscar? but i cant be too sure

premises were good, enough plot points to keep one intrigued, good performances, yet overall vibe - indie cinema. the fact that i still kept it on my hdd warrants a 2nd viewing, tho

Yes it was nominated for an oscar...but it's very, very rare for an indie film to win an oscar. At least it was enough of a springboard for his career.
