Does anyone out there have pet rats—

I got my first little fur ball in college. Most people dont know that rats are as intelligent as dogs, and they will bond with their owner. They are loyal fun loving, gentle little creatures for the most part, and do the funniest things. It is best to have them in pairs as they will become cycotic in behavior if left to live alone, as they are very social. When a cagemate passes on they will morn their loss for some time. They love to play games like tag, hide and seek, and hand wresstling with you. They need 30 minutes to an hour of time with you every day to be happy and healthy. Anyway as a pet most people just dont know how neat they are. So rat lovers post and let me know about your little ones. TW2

I have rats (and mice). Not really as pets though, but food for my snake.

i just watched my friends snake devour 3 feeder mice in like 10 mins. that was kinda interesting. i sorta did feel a little bad for the mice but the snakes gotta eat something.

Oh man you guys, how gross! Wow thanks for sharing Don! I could not feed them to a snake. Although the white rats called feeder rats are not very suitable for pets. There temperament is very different. They can tend to bite, and in the smarts department they are inferior to Fancy Rats that are bread to be gentle pets. I know cj7 the snakes do have to eat something.

Ill tell you though the pet variety are a trip, they have very distinct personalities. And some of their behaviors mimic human traits, even their expressions remind me of a face a person would make in the same situation sometimes, Its kinda spooky! They will even reach up and try to give you a kiss. Until you have been around the pet variety, you just dont know. Anyway enough about my pets. bye all

My brother-in-law had a pet rat (Matty). It was doing fine until my bro-in-law married my sister. My sister smokes and she used to smoke in the same room as Matty. After awhile Matty started to develop large tumors, if fact she had one tumor on her belly that was so big that she couldn't walk because the tumor was longer than her legs. My sister felt bad because she thought her cigarette smoke caused the tumors and Matty's eventual death. Gee, ya think sis? Oh poor Matty! *cries*

Aw Lazlow thanks for the empathy for (Matty). Any how they do make pretty interesting pets. Rats that is!

I've never had a rat of my own but I have had a couple of hamsters, they are fun little creatures.

Ohh poor Matty 😢 I love rats. They do tend to get tumors, a friend of mine has one who is ill but refuses to put it down - and I don't blame him, how could you part with the cuties. I used to take mine to school in my jacket pocket 😄 And to the supermarket on my shoulder. Her name was rosie. You guys talking about them makes me want to get another. 😛

So there is at least one other person that has had a pet rat they can relate to. As for as Matty if the rat was a female, they tend to get tumors like that in their reproductive years (when they can have babies) I just take my female in and have the thing removed its not a real big deal. and they heal so fast. But I doubt that the smoking was the cause of the tumors unless it was a male rat, as they are not prone to the same condition as the females. FYI. Just so you know ok.

I have a rat named Beebers 🙂 She's a yr and a half and loves sweet peas and lf monzerella cheese 🙂 She's VERY intelligent and social. I adopted her and her sister together but Lacy has passed on 😢 They're great pets with a bad reputation.
