"To find out which dogs had the top school smarts, Coren collected data from more than 200 dog obedience judges from the United States and Canada.

He found the top dogs, in order of their doggy IQ are: Border collies, poodles, German shepherds, golden retrievers, dobermans, Shetland sheepdogs, and Labrador retrievers. At the bottom of the intelligence barrel are the bassett hound, Afghan hound, bulldog, beagle and basenji."

I like retrievers too! When I was going to get a puppy, it was a tossup between Border Collie and Retriever. Those were the kinda dogs I've always wanted. But Goldens up the Borders by +47% in the beautiful scale.

My pup had the largest paws, and eyelashes to boot.
But I'd have to say his IQ isn't quite there.. he's a Cancer, very intuitive and smart regarding wrongdoings, rainydays, pet peeves, but there are some things he can never learn.

1. He can't SEE the TV for dog knows why. Thus, he cant watch TV.
2. He can never bark when I want him to. He only barks at strangers.

He's clueless, but sweet.

haha my puppy had huge paws too, everyone always commented on them! He is pretty huge for a golden though and he is absolutely gorgeous. People stop to compliment him wherever he goes! He's a Capricorn and can learn tricks in just a few minutes, so training him is easy...until we go outside. Ughh he is the worst walker!!

Does he pull you?
Mine, when we go out he's the boss. I've gone to puppy training but we didn't work hard enough. Now it's all set, and he's a puller.

My dog only knows a few tricks though 😢 sit, paw, wait, come, bring, roll over (likely forgotten)

Absolute nonsense. How can a sighthound dog have a lower level of intelligence than a poodle?? Don't make no sense. NOPE.

Yeah going to have to STRONGLY disagree on the Retrievers. Labs and Goldens are some of the most retarded dogs I've ever known. Some of my nicknames for them... "Box Of Rocks".. "Peabrain"..

I used to own a dog grooming/boarding type kennel. I've known and taken care of over 1000 dogs. Got a pretty good idea what I'm talking about.

We currently have two dogs: a Boxer/Pitt and a Plott Hound mix. The Boxer/Pitt is a freakin' genius. You can see the wheels turning in her head. The Plott mix is the happiest dog I've ever met, and extremely loving and sweet, but not very smart. I've read that Plotts are smart, so it must the the "mix" that got her. It's good, though. There's only a certain amount of intelligence that house pets need, and after that they just get bored and get into trouble. My mom's min pin is involved in some sort of evil plot to take over the world- I just know it. She's like Stewie from Family Guy- WAY too much intelligence to be a lap dog. She needs to have her mental powers put to work in the circus or something.
