The current Mercury retrograde is official as of Sep. 24 through Oct. 11. As a general rule we often experience changes of our plans as Mercury alters its course. Decisions made during Mercury retrograde periods will tend to be revised, altered, or even rejected after Mercury turns direct. The political polls may shift from the previous direction. We have all experienced many shifts of Mercury, because it does so approximately three times per year. This is the cosmos' way of reminding us to slow down, review, and correct errors in thinking. Read your sun and rising signs below to learn in which arenas of life this retrograde will most affect you.

Every astrologer has been expecting a major global overhaul of all corporate bodies because Pluto is moving into Capricorn. Please see my Annual article for 2008 for predictions. But I must confess I did not really believe things would become this catastrophic, so soon in the process of Pluto changing signs.

It is imperative that everyone review their history books on the subject of fascism. If you won't do that, at least look it up on Wikipedia. We may be seeing the dawn of failed democracy and the rise of fascism before us this very week. If you think "fascist" is too extreme, then read your dictionary. You will find statements like: "Fascist governments nationalized key industries and made massive state investments." (Wikipedia.org, article on "fascism")

Here is one way a country becomes a fascist dictatorship: Economic troubles develop and a panic is generated by the government It is intended to terrify the populace. We, the populace, give up our rights and our personal judgment out of fear of the threatened catastrophe. A new arrangement of the presiding government is given carte blanche (the blank check) to solve the problems and return us to normalcy. (Once given that kind of ultimate power, they will never, ever, relinquish it voluntarily and no one can force them to surrender it, short of a revolution.) The next thing on the agenda is to drive the current monetary system into bankruptcy, so that the "new" regime must change the currency altogether. In coups of history, the new currency pays pennies on the dollar and then only the elite have money. The middle class disappears and poverty is rampant.

Why is this Republican administration so quick to take over the country's financial institutions when for years they have been "hands off"? They have systematically deregulated the checks and balances since the years of Reagan. And now they want to take control again so taxpayers will help them out of their financial woes? I wish it were that simple. But to me it looks far more complicated and is dangerously close to a shrouded fascist takeover.

It is not kosher for me to present my political point of view in this column. I recognize this and I hope you will forgive me. I am seeing the country I love head down a road to annihilation and I feel an intense need to ask all of you think about this. If you agree, call your congress people and ask them to vote a flat "No" to any type of bailout. We, the populace, still have rights and congress has not been totally redefined -- yet. Bailouts of this magnitude will lead this country straight into bankruptcy and fascist territory, the darkest world that Pluto rules.
