How to gain trust from someone who was hurt in the past?

Hey
I have sun in pisces, moon in aquarius, capricorn rising, venus in taurus and mars in pisces.
I've been seeing a guy with sun in gemini, moon in virgo, venus and mars in cancer. Don't know his rising sign though

It's really complicated
About three weeks ago, there was a day that he just didn't talk to me. We went out with some friends, he wasn't looking at me and was avoiding me all the time. The next day I asked him what was going on, he just said he wanted a serious committment and didn't think I also wanted, so he just thought it would be better if he just distanced from me. We talked and we were fine after that.

Last week he was really drunk and started telling me about his past relationships.
He had a girlfriend for almost 2 years. The night he was going to propose her, she told him she was pregnant of another man.
After, he was with a girl for one year when he found out she was with another man for about 6 months.
And it happened again and again (he had 4 girlfriends his whole life)
His self steem is really bad, he has trouble trusting someone and I understand this is complicated for him

He always avoid being alone with me. We never go out alone, always with friends. I think it's because he is afraid of getting closer, getting intimate to me and hurting himself again.
How should I procceed with him? I have no idea how to make him comfortable, how to make him trust me, but I really like him and want to try to help.
Venus and mars in cancer are complicated, he can't let go of those things from the past.

Any advices?

I'm making generalizations but he has Cancer Venus and Mars.

That got my attention because it's his soft vulnerable side. Also the side that will make him close off like a little Crabby.

Key point no person deserves to be treated like that .

He was cheated in like four times... (Didn't deserve it)

From the outside looking in his partners probaly didn't think he was manly enough... Or too emotional... They played him for a sucker...

As for Cancer Mars it cannot control it's anger because it its emotional by nature, and I'd ugly when mad.
