FB Status...
I want a, "Masturbating" status.
If you dont like the way most people deal with facebook, you can just have your account deleted.
Just because you dont like something, doesnt mean other people should stop doing it. There is also the simple tool on facebook to hide status updates from people you dont care about.
Or it may be that you think you're too boring yourself to come up with something to say in your status updates.
I dunno. I really think it depends on what the individual or the couple actually gets out of changing their relationship status on facebook.
I personally never really cared, but I know some of my friends who are very open about who they with on Facebook. With them though, I think they don't necessarily care how open they are either because we're all in a very tight knit group of friends, so we all know what their relationship is like outside of facebook.
As for some people who switch relationship statuses like they do their shoes or underwear, I think that's a completely different issue. I do believe they probably feel some officialness to their relationship as long as it's done openly on facebook. Since facebook is probably the next best way to interact with a large amount of people at once, if many people can see the relationship status, then the relationship has some sort of authenticity to the individual/couple. At least, that's what I get from it.
Like I said, I never really cared to change my status, but my boyfriend last night told me when we having a conversation about our place with each other, that he actually intended to change his status. And what he really meant was that he was going to change it from "single" to just "not single;" not necessarily to "in a relationship." And while I never really cared in the first place, it did make me kind of giddy because to me it meant he was really getting serious about us because he didn't really care about facebook statuses either.
So, I really think it depends.
