What went wrong?

I am an Aquarius woman who met a Libra man 10 months ago. After a few dates, two to three months into the relationship, it picked up steam and we were seeing each other 2-3 times a week and talking/texting everyday. By this time we were sleeping with each other. Four months into the relationship he got insanely busy with work, family illness etc and I did not make plans with him as often to give him time until his life calmed down. For the next 3-4 months we met less frequently about once or twice a month and phone calls and texts were every 4-5 days. Nine months into the relationship he was less busy with work and other stuff but the frequency of our meetings did not pick up again. We were meeting once or twice a month and talking on the phone about once or twice a week. When hanging out with some common friends, I noticed he acted aloof and like he barely knew me. I asked him at this point to acknowledge to people that we are dating and gave him some time to do this but his behaviour didn't change. I then explained my feelings to him stating that 10 months was plenty of time to figure out if you like someone and since he can't commit to me, I'm calling it quits, no hard feelings. He said he didn't tell people about us because in his head it was over many months ago when we started seeing each other less often. I explained that this was because he was so busy but he said it was me who became unresponsive. I asked if he wanted to be with me now since we are great together but he said for now no. We have ended it amicably. He messaged me how much he enjoyed our conversations and we should stay friends even though for now he's not open for a relationship with me.

What went wrong?
