Neptune,

A couple of us had a discussion about this several weeks ago, somewhere in here. That's been happening to me ALL my life. Some sensations are the same for everyone, and there are a few variables.

The common feelings are: paralyzed, labored breathing, the air in the room becomes frozen and cold, completely awake.

With me, I feel a heavy pushing on my chest, like someone is sitting on me. I get the feeling that I'm being pulled away from myself. When I can finally come out of it, it's with a jerk (never ease out), my mouth is completely void of saliva and my throat is sore.

There have been very few cases where people have been able to open their eyes. Apparantly, with practice and focus, people can learn to do this. However, with this "episode", the person is usually struck with fear and anxiety, which inhibits them from thinking about anything except their fright. I've seen specials on TV about it, talk to a couple people about it. And, this is going to sound wild and you gonna think I've lost my mind, but, this is what people say who have actually been able to open their eyes . . .

. . . aliens have put us in some kind of trance, so they can experiment.

Although 'paralysis' is definately needed during R.E.M., so we don't physically reenact our dreams to the outside world; this other terrifying form of 'sleep paralysis' is when the mind awakens before the body. i used to get them too, and there is not much you can do, unless someone awakens you; which curiously *never* seems to happen! i would feel a strong/malevolent presence around me - knowing my every thought and fear, playing on them/terrifying auditory, as well. Thankfully, you do tend to out-grow it!...'some think it may also be hereditary...
