I think that you should listen to what he's telling you. He's telling you that it's not over that he just needs time and space. I texted him yesterday. I sent him a picture of a meal that I had prepared and which I know he likes and I added also that I think about him. He replied that it lookes delicious and that I am a very good cook. We chatted a little bit about his work and he asked about my work. Afterwards we said "sleep tight, kiss" and that's it.
I know that he is always been the one who expects me to initiate the contact. Also yesterday he seemed happy that I contacted him. He told me so many things about his work. I was thinking to call him Sunday, to hear his voice and have some light talk. Should I do that?

He told me that he is confused, both work related as relation related (although there were no problems at all between us), and that he wants to let things cool down, get his mind in order and that he will write me an e-mail about what is going on in his mind.
