i don't think you need to tell him that you want to go back to being the old friends that you were, just be the old friend that you were.
but yes, ln is right, could you hack it? hearing about the potential new girlfriend? seeing their photos together? will you not spend your time eating your heart out?

The fact he is still responsive to your texts even after you went cold makes me feel like nothing has changed for him, re the friendship.
You just gotta be honest with yourself in whether you really do want to be buddies or if your gonna get emotionally involved again.
Do you think I should re-add him on social media? I just don't want to come off as someone who is chasing him. I think enough time has passed for me to really only think of him as a friend now, but I'm just scared he might think I'm still in that phase or I'm expecting anything from him.

Adding someone on social media means fuck all. I think your safe. He won't see your follow and think stalker. Your good.
