Okay, so, my school has an "open enrollment" policy.... they'll take ANYONE... and all they care about is how many people they graduate.... not about actually educating them.....

So I keep getting stuck working with people who are...well..... stupid. I am forced to work with people who don't even know how to write a high school level paper.... and everyone expects me to fix their work for them because I know what I'm doing.... god forbid I actually expect them to fix it themselves.... I get yelled and called all kinds of nasty names..... I have one classmate that I have made every effort to get assigned to work with in every class because he and I work the same way and get along well////he of course is also a taurus.... are we the ONLY people that expect others to actually know what they're doing or suffer their own consequences rather than shift it off on us?? I really think so..... I'm so fed up with being the bad guy if I don't write everyone's papers for them........

*sigh* the story of my life

i'm with you. i don't do anything half-ass. once i get started, i have to see it through. i might occasionally burn out but eventually i'll git er dun.

unless your grade is impacted by their work, i would either start charging folks a fee to edit their existing paper or decline altogether. i understand why it's difficult though because if you're anything like me, you probably read a horribly written paper and immediately reach for a red pen and get to work. it's like seeing dirt on the floor or spot on a mirror...it's begging to be fixed! 🙂 then again, i do have OCD so maybe it's just me.

I have OCD too...

But the thing here is.... the school makes us work on teams.... so yes their work affects mine... which is why all these stupid people pass their classes.... because someone on the team who is actually intelligent and doesn't want a bad grade because of their stupid team mates ends up doing the work for everybody....

My friend/classmate [the taurus] and I believe the school purposely puts one person on the team that gets good grades for exactly this purpose.... like I said, all they care about is claiming the highest graduate rate....

oh...well then you're screwed 😢 i had a b-school set of classes that were setup this way. fortunately/unfortunately, we had the same team all year. and for the most part, everyone was productive.

if it's not an online program and you have access to your profs, maybe you and the tau can get together and go to the prof(s) to discuss one of your papers. say you get a B, schedule an appt, go to the office, just you and the tau, and discuss the paper. ask if there are ways in which you can improve. your prof will take notice...TRUST ME!

if it is an online program, email your prof privately and ask the same questions.

if you're not on a team without the tau, do the same thing. let your prof know your face/name. you don't have to rat people out either. facts are, if the writing style for your "group" paper is consistent throughout, then it's clear one person wrote the paper. by going to your prof, by simply by being the one who's taking an active interest in improving for the future, your prof will know the one person is you.

i guarantee that if at the end of the semester your grades are borderline, like the diff between an A and a B, i'd bet 5 blue books you'll get an A. your team members on the other hand, who knows. PLUS, if you ever have that prof again, they will remember you and your hard work.

so, just do what you have to do and don't forget to kiss up 🙂

yes, it's on-line. I go to UOP. Our classes are five weeks long so there's not a lot of time and I've had this problem in every single class.... me and my classmate that work together have both complained repeatedly to the instructor and the school.... ultimately they don't do anything. The instructor says "if there's a problem let me know and and I'll take care of it" then they do nothing except say "well just keep trying and see if you can help them learn" and the counselors just say "oh I understand - I'm in the same program you are and I deal with the same thing. You just have to keep working and move on to the next class" - I think that is what the school tells the counselors to say because every single counselor I've had has said the same thing....they are in the exact same program as me, deal with the same thing, and just keep plugging along, etc.... it's totally scripted....

They really don't care..... they just want to pass everyone so that more people will sign up because they know they'll get a degree no matter how stupid they are..... UOP runs these commercials talking about having the largest program for xyz and the highest rate of graduation.... the part they leave out is that they screw people over so that stupid people who couldn't pass fifth grade get diplomas......

I've gone as far as to tell people EXACTLY what to fix and how to fix it and they STILL don't get it.... and I end up doing it for them..... and so they get MY A grade......

But I'm a straight A student and as long as I keep up my grades I'll graduate suma cum laude.... so I don't really want to let it go and screw myself over..... talk about a rock and a hard place......

one of my friends was doing an online program at strayer and i helped her with one of her classes. you know how they have those class discussion where you're required to respond? i remember reading through some of the responses and i too was shocked! it was like reading something off of this forum. people were misspelling words and talking so casually. it was beneath HS in a lot of ways.

so try not to let it get you down. unfortunately, your classmates aren't as serious about education as you are but that should make you proud. you naturally want to excel even when you can slack.

good luck and i' hope you and the tau get to pair up more 🙂

UGH! and before those of you with sensitivities overreact, i did not mean to imply people here talk like they're in HS 😛 just saying that with the online classes, people were talking informally, using slang, etc when they were supposed to be answering questions that the professor would later grade. so it was like an online forum rather than a online class. but i digress...

*sigh* the story of my life

i'm with you. i don't do anything half-ass.

WORD! I always say that, "I don't do anything half-ass, I do it WHOLE ASS!" I agree xangelfishx that the people who work the hardest usually get stuck with those who don't do squat. THEN, in Corporate America's infinite wisdom - those half-ass people get promoted because they KISS ASS so well (can you tell this annoys the snot out of me—)
Hence the reason I left Corporate America! I don't think Taurus folks are perfectionist, so much as they like to ALWAYS put their best foot forward and always go above and beyond. That's why I don't like the reference to Taurus being lazy in these astrology sites. Don't get me wrong, I have a TON of failings, but being lazy is NOT one of them.
*sigh* Ok, another pet peeve along these same lines. Working in groups where everybody is wishy washy, and only one person takes the lead (they are the bossy ones); but nobody wants to do what the bossy one says, so they all become passive aggressive, and "pretend" like they are working, or doing what they are supposed to, but in actuality they are WASTING MY TIME! Then, I get pissed (because I sit on myself so people won't think I'm trying to take over a project, I got accused of that once in my Master's program, because I was tired of the bulls#it!) Once I am pissed, it's all over, and everybody better do whatever the hell they said they were going to do and quit wasting my damn time. There are some who have an excuse for EVERYTHING, and then they blink their eyelashes. Well, tough luck, I guess you are going to have to pull an all nighter and finish that paper and email it to me by 4a.m. (yes, this is an actual story and it happened). I love to help people who are HONESTLY trying and just not getting something, but for mf'ers who think I am there to do their work...umm, yeah, NO!
*rant over ... for now*

oh yes.... the class discussions are ridiculous..... I'm supposed to respond four times a week to two different people anmd it's impossible.... it's a bunch of "Oh I agree!" or someone going off on a diatribe about their kids or something that has NOTHING to do with the question..... I always end up either playing devil's advocate or just responding to the instructor's posts because there is nothing from the other students that I can use...... I just responded to a question last week where one of my classmates wrote back about how she always makes her kid try new foods.... I'm like WTF—?

YES, stick to the TOPIC AT HAND! Grrr, that's why I hate meetings too. At my last company when had our all Manager's/Cabinet meetings, our V.P. would go around the table after the meeting and ask all the manager's what was going on in their areas, etc. Most of the people would go on, and on, about senseless b.s., OR how great they were and how their area is excelling and doing SO MUCH! I would be thinking in my head, "Really....I have a ton of frigging work at my desk that I could be doing, besides listening to suck-ups drone on for hours!"

Hahahaha, no worries, this is a sore, sore subject with me, because I can't stand the sheer ridiculousness of most companies/group projects, etc. It really is the people who work hard that get crapped on by those who kiss a $ $ , and I'm sorry, I wasn't very popular with my management team because I refused to "play their games." I feel like, I am there to do a JOB and do it to the best of my ability, and NOT to make friends and crap! Don't get me wrong, I'm not mean to people, but if I'm working on something, I don't have time for niceties, I want to get the job done! We can play and party later!

🙂 when I left my last company, the team I managed was uber bummed out. I didn't get explicit about the reasons I left, but like you, they knew that I left because I didn't want to play the game! I moved, but while I was still close to them, I would meet them for lunch and stuff from time to time, and there are a couple of them I still talk to upon occasion and they hate it there (specifically their manager who is a bully 😢 ). I tell them to hang in there (primarily because I know their circumstances, and they can't afford to be without a job). One is close to retirement age, and she said had it been closer to her retirement date, she would have left with me! LOL. I hate that they are being treated poorly, and of course their new manager talks crap about me ...hahaha! The only reason is because that person knows they don't like them, so it makes them feel like a big person to talk crap about me now!

So we....just got grades on our final team paper for my last class and guess what? Everywhere we lost points was in the other four people's parts..... I'm the only one who didn't lose us any points............ I can't even pretend to be shocked..........

*shakes head and smacks forehead* Ugh...frustration extraordinaire! It will be ok...fast forward 6 mos after you are done and graduate, you won't even remember any of these idiots names! Don't shave any additional years off of your life worrying about these idiots; I know your primary concern is your grade (which I completely understand), but these types are not worth the additional aggravation!

USC you are so right - the games and the crap-talk continued after my Taurus boss left, actually it got worse, so I ended up leaving too shortly after that. Neither of us talk to the people we left behind. I don't work with her anymore unfortunately but I'm glad I followed her out of there!

It's a blessing and a curse being a Taurus, because in business relationships (not necessarily personal relationships), we don't take any crap, and some of us (myself included) will "cut off our nose to spite our face." We are typically genial people, in that, we want to do what is right and fair, but if you cross us (continually) we will let you know. Unfortunately, this type of attitude does not bode well in the Corporate mindset of "Kiss ass - repeat -- Kiss ass ---repeat." In almost every company I've worked at the OBVIOUS idiots and brown nosers ALWAYS got promotions, advancements, etc, while the rest of us had to earn EVERYTHING, the old-fashioned way. I could tell a bunch of horrible stories, but given this is a public forum; suffice to say that "Karma is a biatch" and these people will get their just desserts one day. I won't be around to see it, but I know it will be leveled out the way it's supposed to be.

@USC, you're right. i too had difficulty accepting the FACT that i am not built for corporate environments. i have a difficult time being fake. for the most part, yes, i will sit on my hands in the midst of rank stupidity but it slowly eats away at my soul. and there will come a point where i feel compelled to tell it like it is...sometimes to my detriment. most people would rather that you smooth things over, walk the line and keep your thoughts and opinions to yourself...even if it means improvement.

I am not hiding anything, it just keeps posting in a quote, so I am starting over! LOL!

And ^^^^ that is why (@Tubby's response) is why I had to leave. I can't sit by and see stuff going wrong and/or people making up arbitrary numbers or omitting figures to make it advantageous so they come out looking pretty and clean. I was in a highly regulated business, but the way some people acted you would have thought nothing bad could happen to them. They made up numbers (omitted numbers) because to tell your V.P. that you are losing $ $ $ or not bringing in enough $ $ $ would shed them in a poor light (goodness forbid), so I saw a lot of crap that I chose not to put a "spin" on. I told it like it was, and showed how I could improve (over time) those numbers. Suffice to say, that did NOT make me popular with my management team, because I wasn't playing their game; plus, the higher ups didn't/don't want to know about the bad stuff. They give that "Corporate Speak" about stuff, but in actuality, they don't want to know S#IT. They say they will support you, but they won't - the bottom line is their greed and their cushy positions where they don't have to do crap; while the rest of us in middle management and other support positions have to put up with the s#it that flows downhill.
*grrrr...I'm not posting anymore, I promise - it just gets me so riled up*

I agree...... the problem is these people don't want to listen to a leader - they just want someone to do their work for them and when I try to get everyone to cooperate and do their parts I get verbally abused. I was called all sorts of names for insisting that we needed to put in our team charter how we would handle the situation if someone didn't do what they were supposed to.... I've had that happen in every single class and the school told me that's what the charter is for and if we don't put it in writing we can't do anything about it..... but they were all offended because I was supposed to assume they would just do their work and it would acceptable for bachelors level students.....

Naturally everyone did not do what they were supposed..... they wait until the very last minute to turn in their part of the work [I had to put it all together] and not one of the other four people on my team in this last class understood APA formatting or referencing and citations.... One person in particular also had terrible writing skills. Her grammar and syntax were ridiculous and I wouldn't accept her work if I were a sixth grade teacher...... But I didn't say a word about any of that..... I fixed everything for everbody except for two things: her and one other person did not include references for one of each of their citations.... one person I was able to get the reference from, but this girl who can't write a simple sentence I couldn't get the info from her and it was the day we were supposed to turn in the paper.... so I posted in the team forum letting the others know what was going on and that if I didn't get the information from her I would turn the paper in without it and tell the instructor what happened.... I got yelled at for that..... so I said I'm sorry but if she doesn't know how to reference or cite then she needs to learn. Simple as that, that is all I said.... that spakred two days of verbal abuse from other team members.... I don't see why I would be abused for saying that someone who is earning a bachelors degree and has already been through five BS classes and an entire AA program should learn how to reference and cite..... The girl got the information from our text book, but she put a citation in the paper for a book by Francis Bcon with no reference.... what the hell was I supposed to do with that? How could I know she pulled it from the text book when that's not what the citation said? She used someone else's source...

Ran out of room....

Anyway.... I get yelled at and called names because someone else doesn't know what they're doing and I'm supposed to just do it for them..... I don't think so! And it has been like this in every single class........ Not only do I not want them graduating on MY work, but I also don't think they should be graduating at ALL if they can't write a simple sentence and follow instructions on how to reference with examples.........

I have brought them prrof - I post what they've turned in and the instructor can read the forum.... they just don't DO anything about it.....

I don't know that I appear docile.... I startt out trying to explain myself to avoid a fight and it gets worse until I get to a point where I've had enough and [politely, but sternly] "tell it like it is". I think the probnlem is less me appearing docile and more people trying to put me in my place..... like I said, they expect me to just do their work for them and I guess they think if they say mean things about me I'll look like the bad guy and have to shut up and do the work..... but just because someone calls me a name doesn't mean I am what they say....and that's the point they seem to be missing.....

I've gone back over what I've said to see if anything might have been taken the wrong way and I ask other people to take a.look and tell me what they think, and neither I nor anyone I've asked has thought I was in the wrong......

Yeah I get'cha.... and at the end of the day I do what I have to to get a good grade, but I get so frustrated because the instructors don't do anything and I try to be civil and eventually....well my horns come out..... and that always seems to be the moment the instructor decides to tell everyone to move on..... they never stop the others but once I get fed up they step in.......

Ah well.... I know posting here isn't going to change anything...I just seriously needed to vent.....
