Taurus friends

Hi
Hope someone can help this confussed capricorn. (female)
ive been long distance friends with a taurus for over a year, he seems to blow hot and cold with me, we do get very hot on the phone, and at times seem very close to me, then says we are just 'friends'

I have read on these boards that taurus men dont do the 'friends' thing if they like you, and he has said he likes me a lot, should i cut him loose and let him go?

Yes he is single, has been since we met, he is shy and seems affraid of showing any feelings,
he can be very affectionate at times, but not had many relationships.

yes we have had full body hugs, spent the night together, 'the works' but only the once due to the 1000 miles distance between us, but he was very loving for an inexperienced guy, were not kids late 30's and early 40's.

i just dont get this friends crap when he can be so romantic with me by mail.
