The cheesiness of most season 1 episodes comes through early, but it’s all still a nice introduction even if dated to the 90s. The best thing about the start of the series is that Buffy comes to Sunnydale already knowing that she is the Slayer, rather than us having to go through her learning that she is the Slayer in the first episode (you can watch the 1992 movie for that). She is already the chosen one.
Many new viewers seem to always be drawn to Willow right away. She is a wholesome character afterall.
Cordelia on the other hand gets off to a rough start and very one note mean girl, but I think there’s still a want to like her because of Charisma Carpenter’s portrayal off the bat.
The character of Xander gets off to an awkward start with a crush on Buffy right off the bat.
There is also the mysterious Angel, of course.
And Giles. Cannot forget Giles. He is a watcher. A watcher being someone who is supposed to watch over the slayer and give her guidance. Buffy of course fights this at first.
And the main villain of the season is The Master. An ancient vampire trapped (QUARANTINED!) in the underworld hoping to use the Hellmouth that is under Sunnydale California to be his vessel into walking the earth once again.
So how will Buffy deal with being in a new town surrounded by danger? Maybe not off to the best start :O

Yeah I'll have to redo the "long term" questions if/when they get up and running to see what sports season finish/start lol. Or just call 2020 and wash and start it again in 2021 lol
David Boreanaz was hideous in the show too. Much better in Bones. 😅
He is def wooden at first, but the character is also on the do goody side. He's better as a villain imo
I love Buffy so so very much. I used to watch it with my roommate in SoCal what seems like ages ago now.

Angel as a human was womanizing trash with a bad Irish accent. Angel as a vampire was the evilest vampire. Angel as a reformed vampire was whiny.
Spike as a human was a sweetheart. Spike as a vampire was in love with Dru, and then Buffy, and while evil, still showed signs of compassion and loyalty. Spike as a reformed vampire was Buffy's best friend.
I am also rewatching Buffy, and I'm on season 4. FYI, she is a Capricorn on the cusp of Aquarius. She says so in season 4, episode 11.

I think Spike is def a more entertaining character than Angel. At least on Buffy.
But I have always found Spike's redemption so contrived. Especially since it pales in comparison to Faith's. And it is really because of the season 4 story. But I guess I'll comment more on that when I get there.

Interesting point of view. I always felt like Faith's redemption came out of the blue, but I never watched Angel. I still don't want to watch Angel. I guess I should.

The Harvest is supposed to give The Master enough power to walk the earth once again. Luke is the vessel that will feed The Master and give him the strength to free himself.
But the gang of friends is already not off to a good start because Xander’s friend Jesse was turned into a vampire. Even worse, Xander has to kill his friend. I think Jesse beings turned is to show that characters in a Joss Whedon show are never all that safe. However, where this fails is to show some emotion for Xander. I mean if he just killed one of his best friends (although I guess not really kill since he was technically killed when turned into a vampire), you would think that it would be much more of a heavy experience. Although he does show some emotions about it all but just gets over it quick.
Angel helps Buffy again in the form of advice. And we learn he has no friends.
Buffy is able to save the day and stop the Harvest and Angel is impressed.
Some of the acting in these early episodes can be rough, but the best part of the first two episodes is it already builds the world of the Buffyverse quite well. As well as character development already starting. Xander showing loyalty. Willow still being wholesome. Hints of Angel’s life. And Buffy being forced to balance her personal life with being a slayer already started.

This is the best Episode of Season 1 in my opinion.
Buffy tries out for cheerleading but one of the girls on the team seems to be using witchcraft to try and get her way and get on the team.
What makes this episode one of the better episodes of season 1 is the plot twist. Buffy does good with twists and fake outs. In this one it is who is really the witch? All is not as it seems with Amy. Her mother has switched bodies with her thinking that Amy has wasted her youth.
Cordelia continues to be mean, but gets a little comeuppance after witchcraft is used on her too. It even gets used on Buffy. It is Giles who has to fight the witchcraft and he gets some time to shine.
Strong episode. A villain with some stakes. More Cordelia. More Giles.
