There's this new co-worker who started on Monday, she's 20 and well-- she seems to be lacking in the personal hygiene department. And it seems she's completely clueless about it too. The whole office literally smells like testies and sweat from the moment she comes in through the door. I gotta admit I feel kinda emasculated, I should be the one stinking up the office - being the only guy there - and not her! 😄

And I'm not talking about the girl breaking some sweat throughout the day and coming out all chewed up... a little dirty and smelly is actually a turn-on under the right circumstances! 😛 But 20 years old, fresh out of school, fully functioning, decent social skills - yet doesn't take showers.

Every day the same thing. Is there like a condition, something I should take into account? Do you have gfs who are like this? What's their excuse? Today it was extra bad and I felt bad for her because I knew everyone else was picking it up too, I almost excused myself for not having the time to shower this morning in her place.

Another girl I knew in high-school had the same condition. She was hot, and like any girl she would doll herself up, which everyone thought was strange because she seemed totally clueless when it came to tending to her hygiene.

I personally perfer naturel chicks, but there's a huge difference between keeping it real and not taking showers.

I think this is gross. But I think its part of Diet, and part of up bringing. A lot of girls I went to school with use rags to wash.....and don't clean the important parts properly. So as they gott older and use the rest room, things smell weird.

I am not sure how anyone cannot smell themselves!!! I myself CAN! and if I'm alone Id enjoy my own space!! But I usually try not to offend anyone!

I'm reading quite a few misconceptions on this thread. Just because someone is a hippie doesn't mean they smell like body odor and patchouli. While I enjoy patchouli it is one of my least favorite fragrance oils. I make my own scents in my shop, anyhow.

I'm a hippie from birth. I have dreadlocks. I do not shave. I'm vegan.
Contrary to popular belief I DO bathe and wash my hair. I cleanse the residue from my hair using baking soda and specially formulated soaps without perfumes. This mixture actually is soothing to my scalp and my locks. I KNOW my smell does not offend though I embrace my natural scent.

As far as bathing my body, I do shower, but as well as for my hair I do not use scented soaps or lotions with perfume because these are terrible for the skin. Granted I only shower every two weeks, I clean the important places/the body parts that are notorious for creating stench. Being that I am a hippie, I've encountered some buddies that STANK. In those cases I have POLITELY given them a heads up, and some advice on how to control your personal fragrance and enjoy what your body naturally produces.

It sounds to me that she may need some advice from another female about her hygiene. Perhaps you work with another female that could address the issue. Maybe you could leave her an anonymous note (worded in a friendly way as not to hurt feelings), or you could buy her a nice gift set with soap and various hygiene tools in it.

One more thing I want to say: whoever is out there wearing patchouli on their skin or clothes is a seriously misguided hippie. 😛

Why... and why not?

Just curious about your reasoning for the bold.

I don't like the anonymous note idea (sounds humiliating-- she'll have to suspect everyone), and the soap seems way too "Hey, take a hint."

But I like the personal advice-- one on one, no malice.

Hard on the messenger, but infinitely easier on the recipient.

🙂

About the showering: I may take more showers depending on the season and when they are needed but I've found that showering too much dries out my skin (I have skin allergies) and removes too much of my natural body oils. As for the shaving. I used to do this to impress men with how luxuriously soft my skin is after a shave, but seeing as how I now have a hippie mate who adores the fact that I run with the personal freedom not to shave I see no use in it. Shaving damages skin, and I say if I grow hair in an area it is meant to be. This is not to say that I do not groom, trim, or wax to avoid things getting out of control.

My prerogative on hygiene is quite a bit different from others, but this doesn't mean I'm not sensible about cleanliness and being presentable.

She may have a disorder.

Trimethylaminuria (TMAU), also known as fish odor syndrome or fish malodor syndrome,[1] is a rare metabolic disorder that causes a defect in the normal production of the enzyme flavin containing monooxygenase 3 (FMO3).[2][3] When FMO3 is not working correctly or if not enough enzyme is produced, the body loses the ability to properly convert trimethylamine (TMA) from precursor compounds in food digestion into trimethylamine oxide (TMAO) through a process called N-oxygenation.

Trimethylamine then builds up and is released in the person's sweat, urine, and breath, giving off a strong fishy odor or strong body odor.
