Posted by DamnataOh, wow!
Nah, I researched this lol.
You're not odd.
I was looking up books bound in human skin the other week.

Posted by daydream_achieverOops, didn't see that! 🙂
I've definitely thought of it.. I think they maybe bundled up clothe, rags..? Hence the annoying phrase, "on the rag."

Posted by truecapI am considering donating some part of my skin for books too.Posted by DamnataOh, wow!

Posted by DamnataFascinating. I had no idea that they would bound the books with human skin. Seems creepy, but leather is leather, I suppose.Posted by truecapI am considering donating some part of my skin for books too.Posted by DamnataOh, wow!

Posted by daydream_achieverI'm curious about that too.
While on the subject.. has anyone tried the "cup?" Aka diva cup? I'm very intrigued..

Posted by ImpulsvWhere do you get one? I assume you'd have to be fitted for it.Posted by truecapI was given a cup to try while on vacation didn't use it. Now I will never know haha as I just had a hysterectomy. No more worries ever!!! Just wondering if pms still occurs with ovary in tact.Posted by daydream_achieverI'm curious about that too.

Posted by CopperDoveInteresting. I checked it out but will have to go back to it when I have more time.
I read that there is evidence that some didn't use anything, they bled into their clothes or onto the ground.
The Museum of Menstruation has interesting info:

And this page has some speculations about what women did:

Posted by sultrykittySeems like an accident waiting to happen, doesn't it?
You couldn't pay me to try one, FWIW.

Posted by CopperDoveOh, and I didn't think about the childbirth/breastfeeding angle. They had a lot of kids in those days and only option for feeding was breastfeeding...so they wouldn't menstruate as often.

Posted by daydream_achieverMy experience with the contraceptive sponge, which actually has a strap to pull it out, made the idea of using the cup something of a farce to me.Posted by sultrykittyI've heard like 95% love from ladies that have used it. Apparently there's a learning curve at first but then it's easy and they say they feel SUPER clean and the most comfortable of anything ever tried. Plus it seems like a very earth-friendly option.

And how strange these days to think that when a woman was menstruating she "wasn't doing her job", which I took to mean she wasn't pregnant so she wasn't pleasuring her man. In higher society that "job" would be popping out heirs.click to expand

Posted by truecapDid you read that thread? Hilarious in a very off way. I once had to have bf dig around to remove a broken condom, took him about 10 minutes reaching around. The sponges were terrible to get out; practically gave myself an aneurysm bearing down enough so I could get a good grip on the thing.Posted by sultrykittyMine's tilted backward, so....guess I'm out as well. 🙂Posted by truecapThis is more what I'm afraid of...Posted by sultrykittySeems like an accident waiting to happen, doesn't it?

Posted by daydream_achieverhaha, yes, I wonder too! Even now there are a lot of flaws with the things that we can use so maybe whatever is in store next will make people say "oh yeah, duh".Posted by CopperDoveI'm interested in the first individuals who were, "Hey, let's make a change. Lets not do it like this anymore." Did people think they were crazy or was everyone like, "Oh yeah, duh." ?

Posted by CopperDoveNow there's birth control pills where you don't have a period but every few months or so. So, yah in the future they will probably figure out a way where they won't even have one at all.Posted by daydream_achieverhaha, yes, I wonder too! Posted by daydream_achieverI'm unusual I guess. I don't like to use internals, for lack of a better description. I tried tampons twice in my life. Hated them.Posted by CopperDoveSome of the ladies I know who use diva cup see it like that. They see tampons pads as so yucky and say they'll never go back. I think it's the future for sure.Posted by daydream_achieverhaha, yes, I wonder too! Posted by daydream_achieverThanks! I've seen the cup at the drugstore too. I think it used to be harder to get.Posted by CopperDoveI don't think its weird. I use both. Think I will try the cup someday.. I was not aware you could buy it right at the drugstore.Posted by daydream_achieverI'm unusual I guess. How did cave women deal with their period?
What about women in medieval times?
Women in the 1700s?
It had to be messy in those days.
I guess I'm odd for having this thought.
