"Legal requirements for presidential candidates have remained the same since the year Washington accepted the presidency.

As directed by the Constitution, a presidential candidate must be a:

Natural born citizen of the United States

A resident for 14 years

And 35 years of age or older.
"

While that could be anybody - I think presidency is much more than those simple requirements.

Think of every super hero.

>Their born in their universe, or from somewhere else but have lived in their current universe for a long time (maybe 14 years)

>They look just about 35 years-old

And their physicality is always the same.

Mighty, fit, stoic, and they have power.

When we think of a leader, we think of someone who looks powerful.

When we have someone in power, we imagine a "superhero" on the outside.

So this is the same for presidents... A president always has the "President Look".

While Bernie Sanders is very much qualified, informed, and possibly capable of doing the job - It's safe to say he doesn't have the "president look".

No one ever wanted a white-haired, short, wrinkly old man in power.

This is the exact reason why John McCain lost to Obama.

I've always thought if John McCain was at least 20 years younger when we he ran for president, he would have been elected.

We obviously chose the more capable-looking individual who happened to be a black man. At times I use to think Obama won cuz he got lucky with his opponent, because the way Obama was "reprimanded" and chastised for most of his time in office.

What the fuck

Shit like this is SOME of the reason why Hilary lost to Donald Trump (but that lady has a lot more going on than just her looks that people wasn't bargaining for), and because I don't think Americans were yet truly ready for a female president.

Bernie Sanders is goofy-looking.

I seen all who's running, and I think there's more presidential-looking candidates than the last term.. Lots of people don't think about that, but being president got A LOT to do with the way you look.

While you do have a point, Bernie Sanders isn't going anywhere because the ideas he pushes will never see the light of day realistically.

No politician on either side will seriously fund half the stuff she wants to do in 2020, if he was miraculously elected.

I'm waiting for Donald Trump to stroke out any minute. We can handle Pence for a year, easy.

That's what people have said of many dictators. I think even the US thought the same of Gaddafi. But that's another story for a better time.

Historically, this isn't true. FDR won the presidency and he couldn't even walk unassisted. He won because he was an experienced politician, well educated and America was in deep after decades of trickle down economics ran the world into a global depression. Eisenhower, the oldest president ever elected, won the presidency because he had experience in leadership from his years as a general, and he was the victorious general of World War II. If you think Bernie is goofy, that's your opinion. It doesn't mean his looks would make him an unelectable president.
