The ones I used to know would never admit it and get wary and a bit nasty even though I was trying to help, but at the time I was just like 'God complex' and much more unsavoury terms 🙂 But it's a constant pattern I saw, as well as an absent or abusive parent.
Again this is only a few people I'm talking about so it's not a lot to go off, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

Yeah, well that's probably because people don't like to be figured out. Ha! If they need your help they'll ask you when they're ready, thank you very much. 😉

And on the other hand, you would be surprised at how many people who willingly seek help act defensive once they get it.

Fit God into the mental health approach? Well generally the rule is that the mental health professional should not include spirituality unless the client/patient brings it up first...is that what you were referring to? The key is that it's all about the client and not you so even if you think that something might be a good idea or be helpful, if it falls sort of too much out of line with your basic training/the rules of your field, it's best to leave it unless the client incorporates it themselves. If you are unsure of something, you can always ask a more seasoned professional or your supervisor.

No. I don't believe in religion but I find it interesting.
I don't have any vested interest in psychology either but again I find them interesting.🙂

Smartie pants 😛
That brings up a good question though, how do you know your limits on prying if that's the correct term to use ?
Once you see the knee jerk reaction/defensiveness ?

I try. 😉

And I haven't forgotten about your question about religion. I'll definitely get back to that in a minute but I'm typing a paper, talking to you and about to fly out the door to pick up dinner. LOL. Not to mention, I'm getting ready to watch the Celebrity Apprentice at 9 (I got an official thread going in the Television section for anyone who's interested...LOL)

Ok, so, defensiveness? One thing I've learned is that you will always be corrected. If the client (oh I hate that word) or patient does not want help or want to deal with a particular issue, you will be told either verbally or phsyically. You have to be cued into body language (yes, the knee jerk reaction can be one of them). Being a mental health professional is like driving a car because you have to be tuned in to so many different things at one time (i.e. body language, words, phrases, relationship dynamics, etc.)Is that what you meant? Sorry I keep asking this question.

Nah it's cool. Couple of interesting threads going on tonight but I'm ready to be took off to the land of nod myself 🙂
I get what you mean in it being a constant work in progress, or like taking it in one direction, scrapping certain things and keeping what's consistent/relevant.
I got some awesome help off someone who used to post here as it happens, so I'm not dissing or poking holes in anything you do, if anything it's kept my interest way past my bedtime 🙂
As it happens I have my own assessment coming up soon (downside of the free NHS is there's always a wait), but I've already made it known to my new doc that I'll have plenty of questions and a 'I don't think so' attitude to meds (She's far more awesome than my old one and seems a bit more knowledgable and up to date, just no advice on investing in silver like my old one 🙂 )
Celebrity Apprentice ?
*rolls eyes*

Enjoy your meal/evening anyways, carry on tomorrrow eh ?🙂

Back. Yes, let's carry on tomorrow. Definitely. You're so cool/interesting to talk to. I'll answer all the questions I didn't tonight and psuedo analyze you as I go along. 😉

As far as your new doc, good way to go. I've seen psychiatrists fight with patients over medication that they have to put into their bodies. *smh*

One good tidbit about finding a good doctor is one who truly listens to their patients and trys to give them what they really need vs. pushing their own agenda, all the while not being to accomodating.

Night! Night!
